Position Information
TxDOT's Transportation Planning and Programming (TPP) Division is looking for a transportation engineer to join the Corridor Planning Branch Team. TxDOT's Statewide Corridor Planning Program is focused on advancing corridor development through long-range planning for transportation corridors, working with stakeholders and communities to establish a shared vision. The employee performs advanced and complex transportation engineering work in the development of the statewide comprehensive and multimodal corridor planning program.
Transportation Engineer III - B26 Salary Range $72,886.00 - $105,000.00
Transportation Engineer IV- B27 Salary Range $80,174.00 - $115,000.00

Position Description
Transportation Engineer III:
Performs advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.
Transportation Engineer IV:
Performs highly advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.
Essential Duties:
Transportation Engineer III:
- Evaluates and makes recommendations for developing, monitoring, and updating integrated project plans and schedules so that projects may be executed in the most efficient and effective manner possible.
- Performs advanced and complex planning work such as plan review, calculations and transportation planning studies.
- Provides planning and engineering support for districts in project development.
- Provides technical assistance for the development of urban and rural transportation corridors.
- Reviews and supports Standard Operating Procedures for maintaining and archiving project schedules; managing resources; managing budgets; managing project changes, and managing quality performance measurements.
- Coordinates and/or monitors assigned projects/programs/plans.
- Makes presentations and represents TxDOT.
- Monitors contract performance, evaluates contract deliverables, reviews billing documentation, monitors the consultant's compliance with the terms of the contract, and/or prepares and delivers a written evaluation of the consultant's performance.
- Negotiates fees and budgets, develops and negotiates scopes of work, negotiates contract work schedules, and negotiates other contract agreements.
- Serves as primary help desk resources for highly complex and advanced technical and policy issues.
Transportation Engineer IV
All the Above and:
- Performs highly advanced and complex planning work such as plan review, calculations and transportation planning studies.
- Develops short-term and long-term goals and coordinates planning activities and resources required to meet goals.
Minimum Qualifications:
Transportation Engineer III:
Education: Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.
Experience:
- 6 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience
- Experience can be satisfied by full-time or prorated part-time equivalent.
- Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
Licenses and Certifications:
- Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
- Licensed Prof Engineer*
- Safety Impact Certificate
Transportation Engineer IV:
Education: Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.

- 7 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience
- Experience can be satisfied by full-time or prorated part-time equivalent.

- Professional engineers licensed in another state in the United States, but not currently licensed in the State of Texas, must (1) meet the license requirements of the State of Texas Engineering Practices Act, (2) obtain a professional engineering license from the State of Texas within six (6) months of the date of hire, and (3) sign an agreement to that effect as a condition of employment.

- Leading, assigning, reviewing, and monitoring the work of others.
- Planning and coordinating workshops, seminars and task force activities.
- Developing and giving presentations.
- Initiates and supports quality management activities and performance management measures to provide the highest quality products and services that meet the needs and requirements of internal and external customers.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Sedentary work: Lift up to 10 lbs at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools.
- Talking-expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken words.
- Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading.
