Eskenazi Health serves as the public hospital division of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 333-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus including at a network of Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.

Job Role Summary
The Medical Transport Coordinator is responsible for coordinating, transporters, drivers, and EMTs by overseeing patient schedules and rides into and out of the facility. The Medical Transport coordinator is overseen by the Medical Transport Supervisor and reports to the Medical Transport Manager.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Models Eskenazi mission: Advocate, Care, Teach and Serve with special emphasis on the vulnerable population of Marion County.

Point of contact for patients, transporters, drivers, EMTs, nursing staff, and outside customers

Coordinates and oversees schedules, pickups, and drop offs for the outpatient transport service

Coordinates and oversees inpatient transportation inside of the hospital

Coordinates inpatient discharges home, to nursing facilities, or other designated locations

Prepares and maintains accurate and legible logs, records and reports; provides appropriate reports to supervisors as requested; run reports when prompted

Inputs transport data into the Epic system

Prepares paperwork, electronic and otherwise for transport team

Ensures timely completion of patient transports and other tasks managing throughput

Ensures proper functions of equipment for the transport team and reports defects and needed repairs to the manager

Functions as a liaison between patients, drivers, EMTs, and office staff

Monitors transport supplies and equipment making recommendation to the Medical Transport Office Assistant

Communicates, coordinates, and collaborates, in a clear, professional, way

Assists transport staff with navigation and troubleshooting issues with runs

Assures daily checks for the safety and security of transport vehicles and equipment; assists the Medical Transport Team Leader in checking and maintaining vehicle equipment and supplies

Troubleshoots the Epic system

Participates actively in continuing education and medical audit programs

Assist with patients as needed
Job Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent required
- One year of related experience required
- Indiana Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician-Ambulance helpful
- Current Indiana driver's license with driving record that meets Eskenazi Health's driving policy standards
- Current Indiana motor vehicle insurance
- AHA CPR Certification
- EVOC certification within 6 months of hire preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Possesses excellent written, communication and organizational skills
- Good reasoning ability and attention to detail
- Competent in Microsoft Office, Epic, and transportation procedures
- Excellent judgment and ability to prioritize and handle multiple requests calmly and effectively
- Knowledge of hospital layout, policies and procedures; some knowledge of equipment handling
- Ability to work effectively under emergency conditions and stress
- Ability to drive an emergency vehicle under emergency and non-emergent conditions and coordinate emergency care with paramedics
- Must have normal use of limbs, eyes, ears and voice required to treat patients and to operate sophisticated electronic devices
- Basic English reading and writing skills; bilingual is preferred but not required
- Promptness, empathy and genuine interest as perceived by patients, co-workers and staff
- Skill in patient transport techniques and safe use of vehicle; ability to assess patient needs during transport
- Ability to follow all hospital infection control policies and procedures
