Position Overview
Operates various equipment in a manufacturing environment, including but not limited to lathes. Position is hot, dirty, and noisy. It requires attention to safety training and practices.
Essential Job Functions
· Must have strong organizational skills, maintaining a clean workspace.
· Strong communication skills are needed to interact with coworkers.
· Apply general knowledge of machine shop practices and procedures.
· Able to use lathe or grinder.
· Load and adjust work pieces onto equipment or worktables, using hand tools.
· Grind, sand, clean, or polish objects or parts to correct defects or to prepare surfaces for further finishing, using hand tools and power tools.
· Measure and mark equipment, objects, or parts to ensure grinding and polishing standards are met.
· Remove completed work pieces from equipment or worktables, using hand tools, and place work pieces in containers.
· Select files or other abrasives, according to materials, sizes and shapes of work pieces, amount of stock to be removed, finishes specified, and steps in finishing processes.
· Study blueprints or layouts to determine how to lay out work pieces or saw out templates.
· Verify quality of finished work pieces by inspecting them, comparing them to templates, measuring their dimensions, or testing them in working machinery.
· Record product and processing data on specified forms
· Repair and maintain equipment, objects, or parts, using hand tools.
· Transfer equipment, objects, or parts to specified work areas, using moving devices.
· Must be able to work with various metal particulates such as nickel, cobalt, iron, and Tungsten Carbide. (Please ask for a full list and MSDS from a supervisor if there are any known metal or chemical allergies.)
· Must be able to perform duties as assigned by your supervisor.
· Follow all company policies including safety instructions and training.
Requirements
· Must be able to lift loads of 30lbs at a time.
· Must be able to be on their feet for at least 8 hrs. daily.
· Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
· Strong knowledge of use and operation of measuring tools, particularly micrometers
· Job requires employee to complete respiratory safety testing and training.
· Job requires employee to complete hearing conservation testing and training.
· Must be able to work in hot and humid temperatures for up to 8 hours a day.
· 3 or more years’ previous Manual Machinist experience. Strong mechanical skills preferred.
· TIG/MIG welding experience a plus
Other Skills/Abilities
· Must be a Team Player.
· Related technical training.
· Basic math skills needed to add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
