The Crisis Response Peer is responsible for providing interpersonal and stabilizing support to Southside Behavioral Health (“SBH”) clients. The Crisis Response Peer is tasked with various Mobile Crisis Response and Crisis Stabilization functions within SBH’s catchment area. The incumbent for this position will work as an integral member of the Crisis Response Team. This role coordinates with SBH clinical staff, local hospital and local emergency room staff, law enforcement, magistrates, and other community partnering agencies in assisting individuals experiencing mental health crises. The Crisis Response Peer role covers the Response and Recovery Center (“RRC”) in South Hill , VA, a SBH facility that operates 24-hours a day. To provide the staff coverage needed, the Crisis Response Peer will be required to work 12-hour shifts. The Crisis Response Peer will adhere to a set schedule - 36 hours one week and 44 hours the following week. The hours for this position will be 8pm -8am.
Responsibilities
- Responds to behavioral health crisis situations with empathy and compassion
- Responds to mental health crises at the RRC, and occasionally at other SBH locations, local hospitals, schools, and in the community, including client residences.
- Actively partners with law enforcement to ensure safety and to provide appropriate care in collaboration.
- Actively engages various support systems to assist the individual in crisis.
- Assists with transportation when appropriate.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent; Associates degree preferred.
- Registered Peer Recovery Specialist-VA and hold an active Certified Peer Recovery Specialist certification or be eligible to obtain the registration within 6 months of hire
- Must have been (or is currently) receiving treatment with a diagnosis of mental health and/or substance abuse with 3-5 years of successful recovery.
- Must meet all criminal background and drug screening requirements.
- Valid driver’s license and safe driving record, required.
- Bilingual preferred but not required

Pay: $35,942.00 - $52,984.00 per year
