Will have extensive knowledge of chemotherapy, biotherapy, and immunotherapy, which includes administration details, side effects, and is able to instruct/educate patients and families in these areas.
Will provide infusion services to oncology patients, as well as to patients referred from gastroenterology, immunology, neurology, rheumatology, and other disciplines.
Performs an assessment of all assigned patients, prior to therapy as well as an ongoing assessment during treatment.
Ability to make independent nursing judgments, which includes triaging patient issues, symptom management, and emergency management. Will take appropriate action, while collaborating with the physician or APP as needed
Is knowledgeable about venous access devices
Is knowledgeable about lab results and diagnostic findings and can educate patients when needed.
Chemo Research Nurses will receive initial and ongoing training from the Research Department and study sponsors.
Procedure Nurses will assist with procedures such as bone marrow biopsies, paracentesis, thoracentesis, and lumbar puncture and will monitor patients before, during, and after the procedure. Must be able to identify basic cardiac rhythms.
Theranostic Nurses will receive specialized training in the administration and safety of radiopharmaceuticals.
Triage Nurses will be skilled in telephone triage
Is competent in the use of the EMR and patient documentation
Coordinate patient care activities with Social Worker and other departments
Can communicate and delegate tasks to other members of the healthcare team in an appropriate and professional manner
Provide and maintain patient confidentiality, and maintain confidentiality regarding clinic matters
Acts with skill during stressful or in emergency situations
Will keep all licenses and certifications, and required qualifications current
Maintain continuing education hours as needed to maintain licensure
Demonstrate ongoing professional growth through participation in relevant education endeavors and appropriate associations such as the Oncology Nursing Society
Adheres to clinic standards, policies, and procedures, as well as being cost effective
Maintains high standard of professional performance, behavior, and appearance. As well as functions as a professional role model to co-workers and students.
Maintains responsibility for own professional development through active participation in inservices and/or continuing education programs
Attends bi-monthly nursing meetings, or reads the minutes when unable to attend
This position requires the employee to possess a combination of nursing skills, physical endurance, mental alertness, and knowledge, as well as the ability to get along with others.
