Specific Responsibilities
Mission, Policy and Planning
- Works with the Board of Trustees to oversee the growth of the school to its full capacity and upper school program expansion
- Helps the Board establish the school’s overall direction including short and long-term goals
- Provides key status updates, collaborating with the Board to develop and monitor long-term strategic plans and establish policies and processes to accomplish the mission of Oakland
- Leads efforts in the process of school accreditation and compliance
- Keeps the Board fully informed on the condition of the school, student learning progress, staff accountability and all other factors influencing overall school success
Educational Leadership
- Implements a high-quality, individualized and multisensory instructional program, staying current in evidenced-best practices
- Sets attainable goals for achievement and performance and holds staff members accountable for student learning results
- Ensures educational best practices are used and achieved in all aspects of the daily operation, instruction and measuring student learning progress
- Models and implements a process of evaluation to include self-reflection, data-analysis, and coaching for all instructional staff
- Oversees and improves the school’s instructional model and curriculum to include professional learning and resources for differentiation based on student needs and progress
- Provides a monthly educational report to the Board of Trustees
- Leads efforts to promote positive student and staff behavior and addresses concerns using a positive approach to problem-solving, logical consequences and the creation of improvement plans as needed including disciplinary action
Administrative Management
- Provides input to the Board of Trustees for creation and direction of fiscally sound operating and capital budgets and financial plans (including tuition, compensation, capital expenditures, etc) on a monthly basis
- Works in collaboration with the development director, educational lead teachers, and administrative team to ensure goals are successfully met for all stakeholders
- Works will all appropriate parties to ensure the safety of the students, staff, school environment and facilities
- Oversees the development and use of technology for instructional and administrative use
- Oversees updates to the webpage and other social media platforms
- Oversees and consults with the Board of Trustees on all hiring decisions and contracts
Parents and Community
- Fosters positive and collaborative relationships with all families and the Oakland community
- Engages families as a primary partner with teachers to create Individualized Learning Plans
- Engages fully in the daily life and programs of Oakland School, attending functions, participating in special events, before/after school activities
- Utilizes alumni and donor databases to share current information and enlist participation and support
- Seeks and reports feedback quarterly from all stakeholders and uses feedback to celebrate learning, make adjustments, and measure progress
- Serves as the key spokesperson for Oakland, finding opportunities for collaboration and outreach
Development
- Responsible for raising capital through an annual fund, outreach to foundations, alumni and grant opportunities
- Provide guidance and direction to the Development Director to allocate funds appropriately based on goals
- Report monthly to the Board of Trustees with plans, needs, and accomplishments
- Creates and distributes an Annual Funding Report in collaboration with the Development Director
