Your Role
The Internal Controls Advisory Services team provides objective consulting and advisory services designed to add value and assist management with establishing and maintaining an effective system of internal controls. The team helps Blue Shield of California accomplish its objectives by implementing a systematic, disciplined approach to the evaluation and improvement of risk management and control processes. This position will report to the Senior Manager, Internal Controls Advisory Services.
Your Work
In this role, you will:
- Exhibit the highest standards of professionalism and independence in the execution of all assignments and tasks
- Lead, perform, and manage complex project initiatives of strategic importance to the organization, involving large cross functional teams
- Lead, perform, and manage non-recurring healthcare operational process assessments, including but not limited to project scoping and planning, fieldwork execution and control testing, deliverables preparation and finding validation, root cause analysis and recommendations, project reporting, and post project remediation monitoring
- Develop and document risk and control matrices (RCM), process flowcharts or narratives, deficiencies and findings, and final report for non-recurring process assessments
- Develop and execute test plans in accordance with COSO framework
- Evaluate the effectiveness of internal policies, processes and procedures against established standards, guidelines and requirements and recommend changes where appropriate
- Identify process and control improvement opportunities and provide recommendations that help improve the effectiveness, efficiency and/or economic value of a control or process
- Provide guidance, coaching and training on internal controls to other employees across the company
- Partner with process owners to review remediation activities to ensure appropriate and timely risk mitigation
- Maintain and prepare timely project statuses for executive reporting
- Lead, execution and manage other special projects and team initiatives as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Your Knowledge and Experience
- Requires a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- Requires at least 3 years of prior related experience
- 5 years in Internal Audit or SOX compliance preferred
- Strong understanding of financial and non-financial internal controls and impact to operational processes
- Ability to leverage internal control knowledge to make effective and viable recommendations to mitigate risks from process and control gaps
- Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities in a dynamic and hybrid environment
- Skill in negotiating issues and resolving problems
- CPA or CIA certifications preferred
- Experience in health insurance industry preferred
Pay Range: The pay range for this role is $109,120.00 to $163,680.00 for California.
Note: Please note that this range represents the pay range for this and many other positions at Blue Shield that fall into this pay grade. Blue Shield salaries are based on a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, location (California, Bay area, or outside California), and current employee salaries for similar roles.

Physical Requirements:
Office Environment - roles involving part to full time schedule in Office Environment. Due to the current public health emergency in California, Blue Shield employees are almost all working remotely. Based in our physical offices and work from home office/deskwork - Activity level: Sedentary, frequency most of work day.
