Circulator Nurse can assume multiple roles depending on the needs of the medical staff within a hospital environment. Here are some examples of their job responsibilities:
- Supervising charge nurses and informs them of their duties
- Acting as an advocate for the patient before, during and after surgery
- Monitoring and recording the patient's vitals pre-operation
- Preparing the surgical tools and materials that the surgical team will need during the operation
- Recording every aspect of an operation, including the names and titles of those performing the surgery, the tools used, the amount of anesthetic a patient received and how long the surgery took
- Advising the surgical team on potential harm to the patient during surgery
- Assisting surgeons during the surgery if needed
- Escorting patients to the recovery room post-operation
- Cleaning the operating room post-operation
- Accounting for all tools used during the procedure
