General Description:
The purpose of this classification is to supervise the day-to-day activities and staff at an assigned City recreation center.
Essential Functions:

Supervises,directs, and evaluates assigned staff: develops and oversees employee work schedules to ensure adequate coverage and control; compiles and reviews time sheets; approves/processes employee concerns and problems and counsels or disciplines as appropriate; assists with or completes employee performance appraisals; directs work; acts as a liaison between employees and management; and trains staff in operations, policies, and procedures.

Organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work: prioritizes and schedules work activities in order to meet objectives; ensures that subordinates have the proper resources needed to complete the assigned work; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; consults with assigned staff to assist with complex/problem situations and provide technical expertise; provides progress and activity reports to management; and assists with the revision of procedure manuals as appropriate.

Supervises recreation and fitness programs and activities: plans and implements a variety of recreational programs, educational clubs, sports teams and clinics, outdoor programs, and special events; coordinates and manages programs and activities; creates and distributes schedules and program flyers; administers policies with respect to scheduling, safety, and insurance; distributes uniforms; coordinates assigned program activities with other agencies and community groups; transports participants as needed.

Oversees the collection of program and participation fees: ensures collection and receipt of fees; prepares deposits; gathers funds; verifies counts; prepares deposit slips; makes deposits; and maintains related documentation.

Coordinates facility use: maintains master calendar; schedules facility rentals; prepares for scheduled events; sets-up meeting rooms and sports courts; decorates for special events; collects related fees; maintains related documentation.

Performs general customer service and administrative duties as required: receives and responds to inquiries, concerns and complaints of citizens regarding recreation programs, policies and/or personnel; attends meetings; assists customers; answers the telephone; prepares reports and correspondence; maintains documentation; enters computer data, etc.

Collects data at recreation facilities: compiles and analyzes information regarding facility use, program schedules, program offerings, etc.; distributes and collects participant evaluations: makes recommendations to supervisor based on analysis; prepares and presents facility and activity reports.

Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies: purchases supplies according to established budgetary parameters; repairs equipment; performs routine maintenance and cleaning tasks as required; ensures proper maintenance and storage of all equipment and supplies; maintains inventory records.

Ensures the maintenance of the recreation center and grounds: conducts regular inspections of facilities and grounds; maintains list of required maintenance and repairs; submits maintenance and repairs requests to appropriate personnel; responsible for the maintenance of facilities and parks.

Assists in developing and implementing recreation center budget: makes recommendations regarding recreational program changes and additions; monitors expenditures to ensure compliance with approved budget.

Ensures departmental compliance with all applicable codes, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures: ensures adherence to established safety procedures; monitors work environment and use of safety equipment to ensure safety of employees and other individual; initiates any actions necessary to correct deviations or violations.

Processes a variety of documentation associated with department/division operations, within designated time frames and per established procedures: receives and reviews various documentation, including time sheets, volunteer appraisals, registration forms, and program evaluations; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate; prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, and other documentation, including deposit slips, revenue reports, and program schedules; compiles data for further processing or for use in preparation of department reports; and maintains computerized and/or hard copy records.

Operates or uses various equipment and supplies in order to complete work assignments: operates and maintains a motor vehicle and other equipment; operates a personal computer to enter, retrieve, review or modify data, utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation, Internet, e-mail, or other software; and operates general office or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions.

Communicates with supervisor, other employees, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
Additional Functions:
Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate’s Degree in Health, Physical Education, Recreation, or related field; supplemented by three years of experience in recreation, physical education or related field including lead or supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain CPR and First Aid certifications. May be required to possess and maintain additional certifications depending on area of assignment. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.
Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all city or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.

Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds).
Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, hazardous materials, machinery, vibrations, traffic hazards, bright/dim lights, toxic agents, or rude/irate customers.
