Overview:
Florence Crittenton is seeking an experienced Advanced Practice Registered Nurse to join our healthcare services team and provide medication management under protocol of the agency's Medical Director. The APRN maintains a high level of expertise in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of the complex responses of individuals and/or families to actual or potential health problems. The APRN is an expert clinician who delivers direct care, including pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment, of mental health diagnoses
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Planning and Organizing Activities:
- The APRN collects comprehensive client health data using assessment techniques based on knowledge and research.
- Diagnostic tests and procedures are initiated based on client health.
- The APRN critically analyzes the assessment data and derives a diagnosis.
- The APRN derives expected outcomes consistent with assessment data, diagnosis and current scientific and practice knowledge.
- The APRN develops and documents a comprehensive plan of care that describes the assessment/diagnostic strategies, reflects current health care knowledge and includes delegation of responsibilities to others.
- The APRN prescribes/intervenes within the scope of advanced practice knowledge as defined by state and federal regulations, and according to the prescriptive protocol
- Pharmacological agents are prescribed based on knowledge of:
i. Pharmacological and physiological principles and
ii. Target symptoms and potential adverse effects of pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments.
- The APRN provides consultation based on theoretical frameworks to influence the plan of care for clients, enhance the abilities of others and effect change in the system.
- The APRN evaluates the accuracy of the diagnosis and effectiveness of interventions in relation to the attainment of the client’s expected outcomes.
- The APRN self-evaluates practice based on client outcomes on a regular basis in supervision.
- The APRN critically evaluates existing practice in the light of current research findings.
- The APRN will complete all required documentation in a timely, accurate, and professional manner.
- The APRN may also be expected to work as a staff nurse and expected to be able to fulfill the duties as defined in the staff nurse (RN) position description.
Supervision and Training Activities:
- Reports directly to Chief Executive Officer.
- Clinical supervision by the Medical Director.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- Requires a Master’s degree in mental health/psychiatric nursing from an accredited College of Nursing.
- Must have a Registered Nurse license and be certified as an APRN in the State of Kansas and be eligible for all third party reimbursements.
- ANCC certification in Child and Adolescent Mental Health nursing is desired.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Experience preferred in child and adolescent psychiatric nursing.
- Experience and expertise in the areas of psychopharmacology is required, psychopathology, DSM-IV diagnostic criteria.
- Experience and expertise theory based practice and group dynamics
- Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
- Requires basic computer skills.
- Must be able to pass pre-employment background checks, drug screening, and SRS Adult/child Abuse Registries.
Physical Requirements:
- Regularly required to see, hear, and/or talk.
- See well enough to read reports, monitor youth, drive a vehicle, and observe discreet behaviors.
- Hear well enough to converse on the telephone and hear comments mumbled under breath.
- Speak well enough to teach skills, give feedback, discuss strategies and converse on telephone.
- Frequently required to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods of time.
- Body movement or mobility to track behaviors of youth moving around the building.
- Ability to walk up the stairs (where necessary) throughout the 8 hour shift, and get into and out of a vehicle.
- Stamina to work on your feet, as needed, for 8 hour shifts.
- Remain awake and alert throughout the work shift.
- Frequently required to lift and move up to 10 lbs.
- Occasionally required to lift and move up to 25 lbs and 50 lbs with assistance (ex. suitcases, groceries, etc.).
- Ability to push/pull up to 250 lbs during a physical restraint.
- Required to physically assist in the verbal and physical restraint of clients up to 250 lbs who need external controls.
- Bend, stoop, and/or reach as needed.
- Satisfactory level of dexterity to complete various tasks including, but not limited to, operating a computer keyboard, cooking or driving. Ability to read computer screen and mail.
Travel Requirements:
- Type - conferences, seminars, meetings, trainings or off-site activities with residents.
- Qualifications – valid Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
