This is a fully remote role embedded with our client – a Swedish supply chain management company.
The chief/lead architect leads the solution architecture team and provides design governance for both customer solutions and internal product offerings.
The chief/lead architect must be able to self-start, be innovative, drive and evolve a lightweight technical governance process and help support/mentor the solution architecture team and professional services teams whose technology knowledge may have gaps.
The chief/lead architect is responsible for providing technical expertise, architecture and design for projects and programmes from inception to operations.
The role requires a deep understanding of ERP software solutions, cloud and legacy infrastructure, team leadership and the ability to communicate technical concepts to senior non-technical audiences.
The chief/lead architect is a key role throughout all project stages and engagements, and will manage the demand on the architecture team. They will provide strong technical and team leadership within the organisation and will support the global technology director with realising the company’s target architecture.
Responsibilities
The chief/lead architect will be required to:
Engage with stakeholders to understand business requirements and manage the
translation of them into architectural designs and technical specifications,
ensuring that proposed solutions align with both the current and future needs.
Lead solution design efforts, creating detailed architectural diagrams and
functional descriptions that effectively communicate the proposed solution to
both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Collaborate with pre-sales, sales, project managers, business consultants, and development teams to ensure the successful execution of projects, meeting established deadlines, budgets, and quality standards.
Develop and implement strategies for risk mitigation and contingency planning throughout the project lifecycle.
Drive the selection of technologies, frameworks, and tools that will be used
in solution implementation, balancing the advantages of new and emerging
technologies against the needs and constraints of the project.
Manage and evolve the architecture governance process to ensure that
solutions are fit for purpose.
Manage the demand on the architecture team and allocate work to the
architect(s) with the most appropriate skill set.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members, fostering a
culture of continuous learning and improvement.
Support the transition of projects into service and operations, ensuring
that the solution can be efficiently maintained, and that knowledge is
effectively transferred to the teams who will be responsible for ongoing
operation.
Proactively monitor industry trends and advancements in technology to stay
ahead of the curve and recommend improvements to existing solutions as
appropriate.
Experience and qualifications
The chief/lead architect will operate across a wide variety of areas, solving complex business problems through technology. As such, our expectation is that our chief/lead architect will demonstrate the following skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with technical teams.
Lead and guide both the architecture team and other teams across our organisation in delivering solution outcomes.
Excellent understanding of business processes.
Ability to translate business objectives into tech solutions.
Excellent knowledge of business process modelling with exposure to standard notation approaches such as BPMN.
Experience in managing senior stakeholders.
Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Ability to promote best practices and help others understand why they are needed and to enforce them where required.
Ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
Proficient in developing architectural patterns and best practices.
Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
Excellent understanding of integration approaches and core technologies and
how and when to apply.
Proficiency in at least one programming language.
Ability to lead the design of modular systems.
Ability to manage a wide portfolio of projects.
Excellent risk management skills.
Demonstrable history of learning and adapting to new technologies.
Excellent understanding of criteria for vendor selection.
Good business acumen when working with commercial teams to define/understand T’s and C’s.
Excellent at building and maintaining strategic technology relationships.
Able to drive regular vendor performance checks.
Fluency in English.
