JOB DESCRIPTION FOR EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANT
Position Title: Educational Assistant
Reports To: Principal.
Supervises: N/A

Job Purpose: The Educational Assistant position exists to support high quality instruction to all students, with appropriate supports for their English language learners and students with special needs. The Educational Assistant is responsible for ensuring that the district’s mission is accomplished by supporting all aspects of their assigned classrooms with the goal of maximizing student achievement.
Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Appropriate New Mexico Educator License(s). Dual Educational Assistant / Substitute Teacher preferred. State-required fingerprints and background check.
Essential Functions: The Educational Assistant responsibilities include working with individuals and small groups in the classroom to reinforce material introduced by the teacher; collecting, preparing and arranging resource material for use by certified personnel; and maintaining classroom records, preparing reports, scoring tests, processing books and managing supplies and classroom equipment as needed. This work includes, but is not limited to, the following:
- Works with individuals and small groups in the classroom to reinforce material introduced by the teacher.
- Serves as a model in developing students’ language and behavior.
- Collects, prepares and arranges resource material for use by certified personnel.
- Operates support equipment and monitors testing or make-up work by students.
- Maintains classroom records, prepares reports as requested by the classroom teacher or principal, scores tests, processes books, manages supplies and classroom equipment as needed.
- Monitors student activities in classrooms, school grounds, hallways, restrooms, lunchrooms, field trips, bus loading areas, etc.
- Provides support for non-instructional classroom duties such as monitoring snacks, restrooms, clothing areas, etc.
- If licensed as a substitute, the EA will be assigned substitute teacher duty as needed.
- The EA may be assigned to support particular groups of students for purposes such as tutoring, and other academic or special needs, to ensure student success.

- Must be responsive to all stakeholders, including students, parents, staff, and community members.
- Has strong listening, speaking, and writing skills.
