General Summary: A nonexempt position responsible for operating Neurophysiology Equipment including EEG, EMG and Evoked Potential equipment that assists the Neurophysiology Manager and/or physicians with diagnosing and/or treating disease and/or injury.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Electroencephalograms
1. Measures and accurately applies electrodes in a timely manner, according to the International 10-20 system, and ensures that electrode impedances meet lab standards.
2. Writes a comprehensive patient history , including anything pertinent to the EEG recording
3. Performs EEG record according to lab standards
4. Implements alternative methods or adjusts controls to obtain optimal recordings
5. Recognizes artifact (patient or environmental), documents, eliminates, or takes proper measures to monitor the artifact
6. Knowledge of appropriate actions to take during patient emergency situations and insures patient safety at all times
7. Knowledge of basic infection control standards relating to patient and equipment including electrodes
8. The technologist will room patients and explain all procedures to the patient
9. The technologist will also maintain patient records and patient databases
10. Other duties as assigned.
Nerve Conduction Studies
1. Applies surface electrodes, makes measurements, and monitors instruments to ensure accuracy, and presents test results to the physician for interpretation
2. Recognizes artifact (patient or environmental), documents, eliminates, or takes proper measures to monitor the artifact
3. Performs nerve conduction studies according to lab standards
4. The technologist will room and explain all procedures to the patient
5. The technologist will also maintain patient records and patient databases
6. Other duties as assigned.
Education: High school graduate and graduate of an accredited electroneurodiagnostic technology program or equivalent formal training or any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.
Experience: One to three years of experience as an Electroneurodiagnostic Technologist, preferably in medical practice environment.

Knowledge:
1. Knowledge of Electroneurodiagnostic procedures and protocols
2. Knowledge of anatomy and physiology necessary to perform Electroneurodiagnostic testing including body mechanics and patient movement
3. Knowledge of Electroneurodiagnostic equipment including safety hazards common to Electroneurodiagnostic Test equipment
Skills:
1. Skill in positioning patients properly and identifying equipment problems and correcting or notifying supervisor
2. Skill in following infection control and Electroneurodiagnostic safety procedures
3. Keeps work space clean
Abilities:
1. Ability to work in team based work setting which places high patient satisfaction as the major focal point for measuring success
2. Ability to lift and position patients for the type of Electroneurodiagnostic procedure required
3. Ability to apply written instructions and standardized work practices
Equipment Operated: EEG, EMG and Evoked Potential equipment used for medical diagnosis and treatment
Work Environment: Neurophysiology department. Limited exposure to disease and toxic chemicals in the course of performing the work
Mental/Physical Requirements: Standing and sitting six to eight hours per day, walking, stooping, and bending. Requires ability to move equipment and transfer patients. Occasional stress when working with anxious patients.
