POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Maternal Infant Unit is seeking to fill a permanent, full-time Supervising Nurse I position. This position will assume shift responsibility for supervising the nursing staff and perform a full range of nursing and first-level administrative supervisory functions, and perform other related duties as required in designated area.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
License: Possession of a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing is required. RNC certificate is highly desirable.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

Thorough Knowledge of:
Current theory, principles, techniques and procedures used in professional nursing; basic supervision, medical terminology, medical instruments and equipment; routines typical to an acute-care hospital; uses and effects of medicines and narcotics; Federal, State, and local laws and regulations governing the nursing practice; various roles and responsibilities of nursing staff; nursing techniques and procedures used in the care of patients treated on the unit.
Working Knowledge of:
Safety policies and procedures related to nursing; computer applications and principles and practices of quality assurance including preparation and maintenance of records and reports.
Skill and Ability to:
Perform the full range of registered nursing duties and responsibilities; plan and organize nursing plans for patients; supervise the actions and activities of professional and paraprofessional staff; demonstrate competency in all patient care skills specific to patients treated on the unit; communicate effectively with physicians, nursing staff, ancillary staff, patients and the public to resolve issues of concern and promote effective delivery of patient care; keep abreast of developments in the area of nursing related to specialization and establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted through the course of work.
Typically the knowledge, skills and abilities listed above are acquired through:
Active RN License and a minimum of 2 years experience in acute care with at least 1 year of leadership/charge nurse experience.CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
