This is professional library administrative work involving supervision of a branch library or major department of the headquarters library.
An employee in this class, plans, directs, and coordinates the work of technical and non-professional employees. Work involves the application of professional and administrative knowledge. General direction is usually received from the department head. Work is evaluated through conferences and evaluation of completed assignments.
This position requires evening and weekend hours.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Plans, directs, and coordinates the work of subordinate employees
Assists in the preparation of budget, payroll, statistics, and special reports
Assists in the development of statements of policy for the department and the library system
Evaluates the work of subordinate employees
Makes recommendations with regard to personnel matters such as selection and discipline
Liaisons with other library departments and branches, community groups, and agencies
Performs complex professional work
Prepares statistical and administrative reports
Analyzes statistical reports to determine efficiency of existing services and requirements for new or additional levels of service
TYPICAL QUALIFICATION
Minimum Qualifications
Training and Experience:
Graduation from an American Library Association accredited college with a Master's degree in Library Science and three years of pertinent experience; or, a combination of education and experience equivalent to these requirements.
Licenses and Certifications:
Must possess a valid driver's license from state of residence and any license, training, or certification required by law or regulation to complete assigned tasks

Emergency Management Responsibilities:
During emergency conditions, the incumbent of this position will automatically be considered an emergency service worker. This employee is subject to being called to work in the event of a disaster, such as a hurricane, or other emergency situation and is expected to perform emergency service duties, as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, finger and hand dexterity as well as repetitive motions. Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
