Wyoming County Community Health System is looking to hire one (1) part time telephone operator.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The telephone operator performs routing clerical work involving the operation of a telephone desk console or switchboard. The work is performed under general supervision allowing for some exercise of independent judgement in carrying out the details of the work according to a prescribed routing. When not engaged in activities involving the switchboard, employees carry out a variety of clerical tasks.
Typical Work Activities:
- Check out names and locations of key personnel and their availability to receive incoming calls and the location of medical persons and/or physicians;
- Performs a variety of housekeeping chores such as turning on/off lobby lights, turn off radio at a specific time, receive flowers for patients;
- Checks out and verifies census of In-Hospital patients, transferees, deaths and updates information on the status of patients;
- Uses signals to reach or page beeper wearers on messaged received and needed to be relayed;
- Receives and provides visitor directions to patient rooms and hospital departments;
- Takes messages and transfers calls to responsible employees or public and/or private agencies, places outside calls and bills calls to access codes by user;
- Executes a variety of operation procedures in the event of a fire, disaster or disaster drill, bomb threats, Code 10 and records the date, item and nature of the activity;
- Observes the Que Board to act on any alarm affecting Blood Bank storage area temperature, water pressure, drug room security, low oxygen levels;
- Performs a variety of miscellaneous clerical duties in support of the ongoing functional departments in the hospital, which may involve incidental typing.
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma AND one (1) year of paid clerical experience. Use of a multi-function phone system preferred.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $18.35 - $20.48 per hour
