Hartel's Disposal is seeking a full-time Assistant Maintenance Mechanic to help support our Lead Mechanic in maintaining a fleet of light to medium-duty trucks which operate throughout the greater Duluth/ Superior area. We offer a family-like atmosphere within the structure of a large fleet maintenance operation. This position will perform preventative maintenance and repairs on vehicles and equipment, requiring the knowledge of vehicle systems, including hydraulic, air and electrical systems. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
· Work under limited supervision and follow established procedures to accomplish assigned tasks.
· Perform vehicle cleaning, greasing, and fluid checks following assigned schedules.
· Perform repair and preventative maintenance following assigned schedules. PMs to include inspection and adjustment, oil change and fluid replenishment, lubrication, tire changes and basic electrical work.
· Perform visual inspection, diagnosis and repair of electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake and air systems on vehicles and equipment.
· Utilize vehicle computer electronics systems to interpret failure modes to initiate or assign repairs.
· Perform service calls for emergency breakdowns.
· Conduct safety checks on vehicles.
· Complete all required paperwork documenting work done.
· Assist other technicians and Shop Manager in completion of project work.
· Review, complete or assign repairs identified on DVIR’s (Driver’s Vehicle Inspection Report) and Mechanics Worksheet.
· Drive vehicles in / out of shop for service. Park vehicles at the end of day.
· Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with Hartel’s Disposal and OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) standards.
· Perform cart wash / repair as required.
· Perform other job-related duties as assigned or apparent.
· Regular, predictable attendance.
Qualifications and Skills
Successful candidates will meet the following:
· Exceptional attitude and self-motivated to succeed
· High School Diploma or GED
· 3 years relevant work experience
· Strong mechanical acumen, have good motor coordination, and willing to work in varying conditions and environments
· Experience reading electrical and/or hydraulic schematics
· Ability to exert physical effort in handling objects less than 50 lbs. most of the workday
· Able to lift objects more than 75 lbs. occasionally with or without reasonable accommodations
· Have good motor coordination, and work in varying conditions
· Ability to drive large vehicles
· Hold current Class A or B Commercial Driver's License or be willing to obtain
· Possess current Medical Examiner's Certificate or be willing to obtain
· Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
· Successfully complete pre-employment drug screen and background check
Job Type: Full-time; Monday through Friday (10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.) with some Saturdays following Holidays.
Salary: $25.00 to $32.00/hour – Depending on Qualifications
