Job Title: Teacher’s Aide – Summer Education Program
Reports to: Assigned Teacher; Program Dir. of Ed. Services; Assist. SEP Program Dir.

Purpose: Teacher’s Aidewill align his/her scope of work with Jawonio’s Mission, while incorporating Jawonio’s Core Values as the guiding principle for all work activities.
Summary: As a Teacher’s Aide you will provide a broad range of physical assistance to an assigned, including in his/her personal needs such as toileting, changing diapers, cleaning, washing, etc. You will also assist the teacher in monitoring the student’s behavior and carrying out behavioral intervention plans and academic instruction as directed. The Teacher’s Aide will accompany the student into the pool and possibly to therapy sessions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
· Provides a broad range of physical assistance to assigned student including helping him/her off and placing him/her on bus during drop off and pick up; transferring student to and from wheelchairs, adjustment of braces and other special devices and apparel, etc. as may be required due to the difficulties and disabilities of the individual student. May be required to lift, carry, walk student, or supporting him/her within the group, classroom or learning setting. May provide similar assistance to other students in group when assigned student is absent or does not require such assistance.
· Oversees and assists the student in his/her personal needs, including toileting, changing diapers, cleaning, washing, etc. May help student in developing good personal habits including toilet training, etc. Performs daily heath check on assigned student and reports any concerns to teacher and nurse.
· Assists teacher in monitoring student’s behavior and carrying out behavior intervention plans as necessary.
· When not directly supervising assigned student, performs a variety of duties to set up facilities for the teacher, including arts and crafts projects, special games, and other teaching exercises and instructions planned by the teacher. May carry out other supporting activities such as cutting out designs and making paper displays and other patterns for the students as may be requested by the teacher.
· Works with assigned student so he/she is occupied with academic instruction, play, music instruction, or other activities as directed by the teacher. May provide similar supervision to other students in group when not directly supervising assigned student. Periodically, might lead an activity under the supervision of the teacher.
· Assists during lunchtime and snack time by helping student with his/her meals, with feeding or preparing meals, including heating food, etc. Prepares snacks and helps student during meal and snack time. Cleans up areas after meals and snacks, etc. May provide similar assistance to other students in group when not directly supervising assigned student.
· Performs a broad variety of miscellaneous support functions including photocopying of art work, reports, notes, and/or other materials. May prepare routine records and files, and carry out other related administrative functions.
· Will accompany student into pool and participate in swim program.
Nonessential Elements
· May call parents to deliver messages, relay information to them, etc.
· May collect emergency and medical notes for delivery to clerical staff.
· Maintains safe, orderly work areas and work practices.
· Performs other duties as required.
SPECIAL NOTE: This position is seasonal for the Summer Education program.
Interrelationships: Continual close contact with children; routine contact with parents and other professionals.

Language Ability:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of families, co-workers and other community groups.
Math Ability:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Certificates and Licenses:
No certifications needed at hire.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position does not require any supervisory responsibilities.
Education/Experience: High school or equivalent plus two years of college completed and/or experience working with children/students up to age 21.
Physical Demands: On feet most of day, lifting, pushing and pulling of students and/or equipment up to 75 lbs. Will spend part of day outside, weather permitting.
Additional Requirements:
- Remain current in all required trainings.
- Must be cleared and maintain acceptable record under the state mandated criminal background check process.
- Must be clear and maintain an acceptable record under the Medicaid Fraud & Abuse clearance process.
