Scope:
Manages a team, responsible for the design and implementation of manufacturing processes, equipment, or plants. Responsible for operational excellence via efficient plant design. Ensures continuous improvement in safety, cost, quality and production. Manages all engineering projects and resolves engineering problems. Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Leads and directs the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Leads the process engineering activities for new jobs/launches and engineering changes from preplanning and preparation to implementation.
§ Reviews product design to ensure optimal manufacturability, adherence to tolerance guidelines, tool design, machine design, cell layout, compatibility issues, and safety concerns.
§ Leads tooling development and design from prototype through manufacturing production stages.
§ Leads efforts to develop manufacturing equipment for process through either machine upgrades or acquisition of new capital equipment.
§ Leads process development effort through cross-functional teams to develop optimal cell layout, work instructions, process flow layout, and set-up procedures, while adhering to safety, quality, and productivity protocols.
§ Leads cross-functional teams to develop PFMEA’s, mistake/error proofing.
§ Coordinates internal engineering trials for PPAP’s, PSA’s, Run at Rates, etc.
§ Evaluates and takes actions needed to meet or exceed targets set for spoilage, cycle time, and quality.
§ Accomplishes the above tasks through compliance with the plant’s Advanced Planning Quality Procedures.
§ Participate in Design Reviews, Build Reviews.
§ Maintain open communication with Program Managers.
§ Maintain Records of tooling design/purchase as outlined in Mfg. Capability.
§ Produces part samples to meet customer requirements.
§ Turn jobs over to production that are process capable and have all required equipment and documentation
- Develop new manufacturing processes for existing and new business. (Continuous improvement)
§ Produce part samples to meet customer requirements.
§ Research New Manufacturing and Tooling techniques.
§ Participate in PCIT team.
- Manage the responsibilities and priorities of the engineering department.
§ Review PFMEA’s, Scrap Reports, Utilization Reports, and Variance Summaries on a regular basis; prioritize corrective actions based on Significant Negative Variance, High RPN or severity of scrap produced.
§ Maintain Prioritized List of Current Engineering projects.
§ Assign Projects to appropriate personnel within RCP based on above priorities.
§ Provide leadership, performance feedback input and motivation on projects and performance.
§ Interface with plant personnel to smooth transition of projects into plant.
§ Maintain Records of completed projects.
§ Maintain Internal Corrective Action system and files.
· Serve as a Technical Training Resource for the Plant.
▪ Identify and provide coaching to proper personnel on tooling issues.
▪ Identify items for quarterly maintenance meetings.

QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Work Experience, Etc.):
Minimum [Must have to be considered for the position]:
§ Engineering degree (BSME, Mechanical, or Manufacturing) and 5 or more years relevant experience; or, high school diploma or equivalent and ten years of relevant work experience. At least 1 year of experience in a supervisory role.
§ Experience with CAD procedures.
§ Design for manufacturing (DFM) experience.
§ Demonstrated problem solving and technical skills.
§ Experience with MS Office and CAD applications.
Desired [Will provide job holder with added skill(s) to perform duties]:
§ Design experience.
§ Thermoforming/Extrusion background
§ Program management experience.
§ Understanding of Level 2 SPC.
§ Ability to read and work from prints.
§ PLC Programming experience.
