BAHIA was established by and for Latino families in 1975 as a non profit organization. BAHIA is currently the only full-time; Latino nonprofit in Berkeley providing bilingual (Spanish-English) childcare and education to children ages 2-10 years of age.

Our programs:
Centro VIDA: Full-time toddler and preschool program serving 64 children ages 2 to 5 years
Bahia School Age Program: After-school and summer program serving 65 children ages 5 to 10 years
La Academia de BAHIA: Part-time bilingual care program for children ages 3-4 years old
*BAHIA provides subsidized and full-cost childcare at both facilities

Job Summary Program Director for Centro VIDA Program
The Program Director of Centro VIDA is responsible for developing and implementing a high-quality dual language learning educational program. The Centro VIDA Program Director provides overall management and direction of all local, state, and federal contracts that are consistently implemented with fidelity and meet all compliance requirements. The Program Director will provide leadership training and coaching to the staff, specifically the Site Supervisor, Enrollment and Admissions Coordinator, Cooks, and custodial staff.
Ideal candidates will have a deep commitment to dual-language and passion for learning along with a growth mindset, knowledge of child development, love and respect for young children and their capabilities, and interest in community involvement. Will hold an M.A. Degree in Early Child Development, a Program Director Child Development Permit from the California Commission or a Teaching Credential, and have bilingual/bicultural experience in a leadership role as well as excellent bi-literate verbal/written communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:
- Manage day-to-day operations, ensuring adherence to state, federal, and program policies
- Actively work to maintain practices that enable equity and social justice
- Maintain a presence and bond with and within the community by attending events and other
- Provide mentoring and leadership to the Centro VIDA Site Supervisor.
- Promote an all encompassing welcoming environment .
- Engage in clear and direct communication with educators, children, and families
- Positive Engagement with families in our programs and out as an organization representative.
- Train and onboard new hires, focusing on clear communication, responsibilities and expectations
- Assessing employees' work performance and identifying areas that need improvement and professional growth.
- Conduct bi-annual employee work performance evaluations
- Recruit, hire, and support teaching staff and volunteers.
- Assume lead role in annual reports deadlines and their completion of CDE/CSPP and DSS/CCTR program compliance to include Program Self-Evaluation, Desired Results, Environmental Rating Scale, Quality Counts, and CLASS
In addition to these various tasks and responsibilities, Centro VIDA Program Director is expected to follow state regulations, licensing requirements, and BAHIA Inc. policies and procedures to maintain compliance and ensure the health and safety of children. Responsibilities and duties may change as needed
Qualifications
- Hold a BA or an MA in Child Development/Early Childhood
- Four or more years of successful supervision and management in early childhood
- Program Director Child Development Permit from the California Commission or a Teaching Credential
- Proven management skills and ability to organize.
- Experience in working with dual language learners and families.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.
- Deep understanding of conflict resolution skills and social emotional needs of children
- An understanding of trauma informed practice is preferred
- Bilingual Spanish/English
- Knowledgeable in Word, Excel and Google Drive
Other requirements:
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain within 90 days of hire).
- Clearance of background check, physical health screening and TB test in accordance with state regulations.
- Maintains proper, valid certification and training for administering a childcare center in accordance with agency, local, state and federal requirements including but not limited to: Mandated reporter training, workplace violence prevention
- Must provide proof of immunizations
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to walk, stand, sit, bend, and kneel for extended periods.
- Visual and auditory ability to monitor and supervise children in various settings.
Most work is performed in the office and involves extensive and ongoing keyboarding, and some lifting is required. This position will require some driving between sites and possible local locations.
