Job Description:
The Unit Nurse Manager is responsible for the management of the clinical research observation unit, consistent with company policies, principles, strategies, and objectives. Accountable for safety of the subjects, ensuring that protocol requirements are met while a subject is housed on the unit, and providing a safe working environment for employees. Work closely with the Principal Investigators, Sub- Investigators, Recruitment Team, and Clinical Research Coordinators to implement study protocols on the observation unit. In executing these position responsibilities, the Unit Director is guided FDA regulations, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), and company standard operating procedures and policies.
Responsibilities:

Serve as supervisor and mentor to all direct reports as detailed by the organizational chart.

Complete patient care requirements by scheduling and assigning nursing and staff; following up on work results.

Maintain nursing staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees, planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.

Assist in the development and implementation of an individualized treatment plan for each assigned patient.

Assist nursing personnel to act in compliance with corporate policies and procedures and regulatory requirements.

Provide access and/or resources for all employees to complete the training needed to perform job responsibilities.

Manage the implementation of a study protocol on the unit including but not limited to the dispensing of investigational drugs, administration of electrocardiograms, performing vital signs, and collection of biological samples.

Participate in the writing, review, and implementation of standard operation procedures and workplace practices as applicable to the observation unit.

Oversee the inventory, order, and maintenance of needed supplies for unit including but not limited to medical supplies, equipment, prn medications, linens, and food services.

Skills and Qualifications:

Registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse.

Understand regulatory requirements, as well as Good Clinical Practices (GCP) and International Conference on Harmonization (ICH) guidelines.

Able to communicate with providers, co-workers, sponsors, and others in a collaborative and courteous manner.
- Knowledgeable in medical terminology to communicate with physician office and staff.
- Able to initiate or modify behavior to achieve desired outcomes despite environmental factors, priorities, or problems that might not be well defined or that are subject to change.
- Excellent communication skills (interpersonal, written, verbal)
- Attention to detail.
- Basic computer skills to include Word, Excel, as well as proprietary applications unique to the clinical research industry (such as Study Manager, EDC)
