TThe Maintenance Assistant 1 reports to and works under the direction of the Facilities Manager. From time to time the Maintenance Assistant 1 will also receive guidance and direction from the Maintenance Assistance 2. This position is responsible for a variety of tasks primarily in support of the community centers operated by Spectrum Generations. The Maintenance Assistant 1 plays an integral role in providing a safe, clean, and appealing environment for our consumers, staff, volunteers, and the public. The Maintenance Assistant 1 position is based on a normal 40 hour work week, with occasional overtime as may be directed by the Facilities Manager. The position requires performing a mixture of entry level maintenance and custodial type activities, included but not limited to, general cleaning and sanitizing, moping and sweeping, painting, landscaping, snow removal, drywall repair, minor plumbing, carpentry and electrical. At times this position may also be assigned the task of picking up or delivering supplies or furniture using a company vehicle. Aside from possessing a variety of minor trade skills, the Maintenance Assistant 1 must be willing to expand his/her knowledge and continue working to develop more advanced skills, becoming a more competent and self-sufficient maintenance person. To succeed in this position the Maintenance Assistant must be willing and able to take direction and perform accordingly. Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in righting. Compassion and a desire to promote Spectrum Generations core values is essential.
Duties include:
- Maintain all entryways/exits for safety and cleanliness. Shovels snow and sands/salts walkways, fire exits, all building walkways and around dumpster areas.
- Maintain landscaping (mowing, flower beds, shrubs, etc.)
- Routine building maintenance and cleaning (light bulbs, minor plumbing and electrical repairs, painting, drywall repairs, filter replacement, other duties as assigned)
- Routine safety inspections, proper documentation, and the ability to properly correct deficient issues
- Responsible for conducting fire drills, fire system inspections, and documentation in accordance with Spectrum Generations/NFPA guidelines
- Repair all facilities equipment within scope of ability/licensing. Aptitude to identify problems and apply best practices to correct. This is often done unsupervised at multiple locations.
- Must display compassion and maintain pleasant demeanor around diverse consumer base
Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
Physical exertion is required to lift moderately heavy items and equipment from 20-80 lbs. Duties may require long periods of standing, bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, climbing ladders and maneuvering within tight spaces. Maintenance Assistant must possess the physical capabilities to perform the duties of the position
Education/Experience:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- 1-2 years’ experience preferred with some basic knowledge in the various trades (carpentry, HVAC, drywall, painting, etc.)
- 1-2 years’ experience preferred in facility maintenance and custodial services.
- Familiarity with computer and the ability to learn basic software such as e-mail, payroll software and the facilities maintenance software.
- Must possess a current Maine driver’s license and clean driving record
