The Quality Assurance Technician is responsible for verifying the execution of Quality systems and processes. Many of these systems proactively ensure Quality of products and services produced by Operations personnel and vendors. The Technician will perform inspection of finished product, ingredients, and materials at all stages of processing (incoming, in process, and finished goods). Cooperates with other Quality Assurance Technicians and Operations personnel in a team effort to identify potential Quality issues, communicate them thoroughly, seek prompt resolution, and to verify resolution with follow-up.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conducts internal quality systems audits.
- Verifies that Operations personnel are properly completing quality checks.
- Performs appropriate finished product testing on every batch produced. Performs one random bake up from their shift.
- Verifies that Operations personnel are following specified Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s) and HACCP guidelines, which are designed to ensure Quality through repeatability and consistency. Technician will verify that personnel are following proper procedures, in the specified sequence, using the correct tools, and completing logs and audit sheets.
- Audits lot codes recorded for ingredients in Mixing areas by comparing lot code recorded on log to lot code of ingredients being used.
- Performs required tests on raw materials (including bulk ingredients).
- Tests finished product by baking and performing near infra-red (NIR) testing.
- Mixes and bakes product from questionable batches.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
- Associate degree in a scientific discipline, and/or 5+ years of analytical/lab experience.
- Some food processing knowledge is helpful.
- Fully knowledgeable and capable of using all laboratory equipment (including but not limited to): NIR, Moisture Analyzer, pH meter, Colorimeter, Texture Analyzer, Water Activity Meter, HPLC, Protein Analyzer etc.
- Must be knowledgeable with the following computer programs: Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
- Must be a capable baker.
This is likely to be a 3rd Shift position (11:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m.- Sunday night through Friday morning).
