Due to growth, UCP of WCW is looking for a Housing Specialist with excellent people skills to assist clients with securing affordable, permanent housing. Clients may include low- to moderate-income families, veterans, a person experiencing homelessness, a person with a disability, or senior citizens. Many of these clients may be on government-assistance programs or are transitioning from temporary to permanent housing. As a Housing Specialist, your responsibilities involve performing housing search, assisting with applications and appropriate processes, contacting housing agents, and monitoring a client’s progress.
To be successful as a Housing Specialist you should have excellent listening and organizational skills, be detail-oriented and have a great deal of patience. An outstanding Housing Specialist should be an excellent mediator and knowledgeable about tenant and landlord rights and responsibilities and social services.
Responsibilities can include but are not limited to:
Expectations:
- Assessing clients' eligibility and determining their housing and service needs
- Assisting clients with housing search and appropriate application processes
- Collaborating with government agencies, community organizations, and property owners
- Ensuring clients understand their rights and responsibilities as tenants
- Investigating and resolving client and landlord issues
- Understanding and adhering to program rules and restrictions
Maintain efficient work methods and production goals
Expectations:
- Participate in weekly staff meetings.
- Participate in performance reviews.
- Participate in monthly caseload review.
- Stay up to date individual billing responsibilities.
- Maintain calendar, including work schedule, home visits (including the address), events, and project deadlines.
- Prepare and maintain case notes

Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Strong analytical, mediating, and negotiation skills
- Good communication, interpersonal, and listening skills
- Sensitive to different cultures and socioeconomic conditions
- Excellent organizational and case management skills
- REQUIRED: Must have dependable internet AND work space that offers confidentiality and HIPAA compliance
- Computer proficiency using cloud- based software on a laptop and working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and specifically using Microsoft Outlook, Teams and Sharepoint required.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license, maintain adequate auto insurance, and the ability to travel within the designated area of the State of Wisconsin.
Ideal Qualifications:
- Degree in human services, social work, or related field helpful but not required
- Working knowledge of social service agencies and community services
- Basic knowledge of regulatory standards and property management
Job Type: 25 hours per week, weekdays; with room for growth
Pay: Starting $14-$16 per hour, dependent on experience and/or education. As you get more integrated into our team, there is opportunity for growth.
