Position Overview
We are looking for a confident, knowledgeable and collaborative Health, Safety and Environmental Specialist to join the team. The ideal candidate will ideally have at least 3 – 10 years of relevant experience either in a relevant field with a focus on safety and compliance. The key to success in this role is having a collaborative mindset and approach, as well as a desire to roll up your sleeves and be the “go to” expert in all aspects of compliance, safety, training, training programs, OSHA, FAA, regulations, etc.
You will be working hand in hand with department safety managers to ensure overall company wide health, safety and environmental standards are upheld.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for managing, coordinating and overseeing all aspects of Health, Safety and Environmental policies, procedures and regulatory compliance and follow through throughout the organization
- Collaborate with key team members in other departments including maintenance, operations and FBO services to ensure safety measures and protocol are followed at all times.
- Subject Matter Expert - Act as the safety and compliance “guiding light” in the company and be the “go to” expert in this area.
- Coordinate and conduct employee employee health and safety training programs.
- Responsible for internal evaluation relative to HS&E regulatory requirements with third party safety standards adopted by the company (ier. ARGUS, IS-BAO, IS-BAH, etc.)
- In key leadership meetings, participate as the safety and compliance expert to discuss pertinent topics.
- Function as Chairperson of the company Safety Committee and provide on-going support and assistance to departmental Safety Managers in safety risk management, investigation, root cause analysis and mitigation of safety related risks and events.
- Maintenance of company safety reporting system.
- Designated Employer Representative for the company's FAA/DOT Drug & Alcohol Testing and Prevention Program to administer the program company wide.
- Assure on-going local, state, and federal environmental compliance for all company facilities.
- Develop and implement policies and processes in adherence with federal guidelines and protocols to ensure safety and compliance in all areas.
- Stay abreast of all industry regulations and updates (FAA, OSHA, etc.) and update and/or conduct training as necessary.
- Computer savvy - Responsible for entering key information into the system and tracking.
- Coordinate and participate in accident and injury investigations and recommend appropriate action.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively on the team.
- Strong desire to support and deliver quality and customer support.
- Demonstrate leadership abilities with a down to earth approach.
- There will be occasional travel to their other locations/hangers.
- Must be able to work on-site, Monday through Friday, normal business hours.
Background Skills and Experience
- Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience as a Health, Safety and Environmental Specialist.
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety Science, Occupational Safety or related field.
- ASP, GSP or CSP Certification a plus.
- Well versed in OSHA and industry regulations and protocols.
- Knowledge of FAA/DOT Drug & Alcohol testing protocols.
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
- Very detail oriented, through and focused.
- Strong interpersonal skills - confident, friendly and collaborative.
- Experience training team members in relevant safety and compliance.
- Experience working collaboratively with team members.
- Ideally have the skills, personality and ability to grow into a senior leadership role.
