Position Description:
-
Reporting to the Chief of Schools in the Student Support Unit, the Director of Pre-Kindergarten is responsible for coordinating preschool programs for special education and general education students in elementary schools.
Scope of Responsibility:
-
Collaborate and provide support to Executive Directors of School Support and principals in assessing needs, planning, developing and reviewing preschool programs for general and special education students.

Participate when necessary in placement IEP meetings as needed.

Collaborate with Child Nutrition, Health Services, Transportation, Planning, Human Resources, and Facilities to ensure student services are adequately rendered which include but not limited to staff qualifications, health and safety, and space and facilities.

Conduct on-site visits to assess compliance of instructional practices, and to assist the principal by providing assistance for monitoring visits.

Conduct staff development opportunities for all Early Childhood related employees which include but are not limited to administrators, teachers, para-educators, strategists, social workers and interdepartmental staff.

Assist the Chief Finance Officer with budget proposals using IDEA Pre-School funds.

Collaborate often with principals to ensure program guidelines and budgetary compliance is met.

Complete all reports including but not limited to, reports to the Louisiana Department of Education, U.S. Department of Education, etc.

Organize and plan registration for all Early Childhood Education programs.

Supervise compliance of Serving Preschool Children under Title I Non Regulatory Guidance and Bulletins 105, 741, 746, 1508, 1530, and 1706.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief of Schools.
Skills and Qualifications:

Master’s degree

Certifications in Early Childhood Education and/or Early Intervention

Three (3) years teaching experience in Early Childhood
-
Minimum of five (5) years site based management experience with three (3) years at the elementary/Early Childhood level
-
Strong communication skills in multiple settings and the ability to be an engaging change agent and culture- creator that can inspire and motivate.

Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to use quantitative and qualitative data to make decisions and recommendations.

Collaborative management style, with a proven track record of working with diverse individuals at all levels to drive decision-making and results.
-
High degree of professionalism, with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities, while consistently demonstrating sound judgment and disciplined thinking.

Knowledge of programmatic compliance of serving preschool children under IDEA, ACT III, Title I Non Regulatory Guidance and Bulletins 105, 741, 746, 1508, 1530, and 1706.
Desirable Qualifications:

Certification in Special Education

Experience in working with students with special needs

Certification in Educational Administration, Educational Leadership or management experience
Physical Involvement:

Sitting is required most of each work day.

Must be able to operate office equipment. Standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting up to 10 pounds is sometimes required.

Ability to provide own transportation to schools, work locations, and meeting sites.
-
Mobility skills necessary to access a variety of work locations, including locations not on the ground floor.
