The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures furthers the understanding, celebration, and preservation of cinema through inclusive and accessible exhibitions, screenings, programs, initiatives, and collections. Welcoming visitors from Los Angeles and around the world, the Museum works in active partnership with motion picture artists and specialists, scholars, staff, and diverse communities to contextualize and challenge dominant narratives around cinema, inspiring discourse, connection, joy, and discovery.
Reporting to the Associate Director of Exhibitions Installation, the Preparator will focus on artwork installation in exhibition galleries, maintaining galleries and casework, preparing, and packing art loans, assisting with collections handling, as well as assist in many aspects of preparation for exhibition production. This is a very physical role.
You Will:
- Hang, level, and secure framed objects.
- Position, mount, and secure large and small 3D objects.
- Work closely with curators, registrars, and conservators during install periods.
- Join the team for specialized trainings and project overview meetings.
- Assist in artwork framing including cutting materials per cut sheet.
- Assist in packing and movement of artworks for transport or within the museum.
- Help maintain galleries and art storage spaces including glass cleaning.
- Help to create mock-ups and models of exhibitions.
- Operate power tools such as drills and woodshop tools.
- Assist with various preparations of exhibition components.
- Work in a team environment.
- Abide by all health and safety protocols.
