MCSO HR Consultant
Salary Range: $59,529-$74,411
HR Professional Certification, Notary & DCI Training will be provided for up to $3500 dollar value; Tuition Reimbursement offered up to $5250 per calendar year once eligibility has been met. This is a salary exempt position. Pay rates are based on education, skill, experience level and internal equity. Internal equity considerations include an assessment of the applicant's salary history and qualifications in comparison to the market rate and requirements for the job.
Position Summary
The HR Consultant will be responsible for managing and coordinating leave processes (FMLA, Extended/Non-FMLA, WC, etc. leave), personal or work-related injury, which requires specific medical documentation before returning to work, personnel action forms; compiling and preparing reports and correspondence pertaining to personnel activities; conducting necessary audits and reviewing dates as well as other important data; keys information into computer. Responsible for processing, verifying and maintaining personnel related documentation. Examining employee files to answer inquiries and providing information for personnel actions. Answering questions regarding salaries, incentives, benefits, and other pertinent information. Monitoring and providing oversight and correction for processes related to the area of assignment. Understanding and using discretion in applying laws, rules, regulations and policies.
In addition, this position is responsible for conducting background investigations in preparation for full time hire of civilian and some certified applicants for vacant positions. Provides payroll information to MCSO payroll staff for employees in leave status. Requires good communication, interviewing, and decision-making skills. The HR Consultant performs some Manager Self Service functions per Sheriff’s Office directives.
Cross training will be done for other HR tasks and activities based on business needs. Incumbent must possess excellent organizational skills, team-oriented, the ability to prioritize, able to meet deadlines, excellent record keeper, and the ability to manage a large workload with multiple tasks occurring throughout the workday. As well as responsible for all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration; 5+ years HR Generalist experience or experience in various HR functions, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Candidate must have knowledge and experience in leave processes (FMLA, Extended Leave, WC, Disability, etc.). Must be knowledgeable in Microsoft Excel (VLookup & Pivot Tables) & other Microsoft Office Suite applications.
Must successfully pass DCI certification training, maintain same, and become well versed in running and interpreting DCI records. DCI Certification is required and the training is provided and arranged by the Sheriff’s Office. Willing to obtain/ successfully pass HR Professional Certification. If no certification is held, training is provided and arranged by the Sheriff’s Office. Structured interview and HR assessment will be part of the recruitment and selection process for this position.
Preferred Qualifications: Currently DCI Certified and/or a Notary and/or certified: SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, SPHR, PHR and/or IPMA-CP, IPMA-SCP and Bilingual is a plus.
