Job Summary:
Freedom Space Technologies is seeking a talented and motivated Satellite Communications System Engineer to join our team. As a SATCOM Systems Engineer, you will play a crucial role in designing, analyzing, and optimizing communication systems for satellite networks. Your expertise will contribute to the success of our space and defense programs.
You will be required to devise, plan and implement Satellite Communications (SATCOM) ground station (i.e. teleport) solutions to meet program satellite communications network performance objectives. Tasks include generating designs to build out customer satellite communications networks, integrate and test satellite antenna ground site antennas, ensuring readiness to support customer satellite requirements, and to sustain operational network systems. You will be called to apply project management skills to manage satellite ground terminal development/integration projects from inception to successful completion. You will interface with customer representatives and support contractors, product vendors, service providers and co-workers to align efforts with company priorities and in accordance with project milestones and constraints. This position requires travel to site locations; sometimes requiring the field engineer to travel from one remote location directly to a different field location. Engineers are expected to be highly self reliant, able to resolve unforeseen issues with minimum external support. Candidates must have the ability to balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, highly dynamic environment. PREFER CANDIDATE WITH A TOP SECRET CLEARANCE OR TS ELIGIBILITY.
Duties:
- Plan, manage and execute satellite communications teleport integration into an existing network infrastructure
- Generate site design and integration solution products such as system & sub-system specifications, Interface Control Documents (ICDs), CONOPS diagrams, site, system drawings and test plans/reports.
- Support operations to provide satellite communications service to FST customers
- Plan and conduct preventative and corrective maintenance on satellite communications teleport systems
- Act as a self starter in creating quality and responsive solutions meeting company and customer satellite communications technical and operational network performance requirements.
- Actively participate in and/or lead projects as assigned in order to achieve company goals
- Work closely with FST network operations staff to develop and validate operations policies and procedures.
- Engage and coordinate with 3rd party vendors to acquire material and/or service solutions required to meet teleport buildout and network requirements
- Execute terminal system setup, configuration, and testing
- Conduct system anomaly investigation and resolution to support network operations
- Create and maintain user and in-house technical documentation
- Prioritize time and projects, working independently
Skills/Qualifications:
- 10 years experience in RF (SATCOM preferred) systems design, test, operations and sustainment
- Highly proficient knowledge of Radio Frequency (RF) communications technology, systems, practices and tools
- Experience in designing and implementing supporting SATCOM antenna infrastructure, i.e. foundation/structure support, electrical service installation, network access
- Knowledge of SATCOM network operations with an understanding of best practices
- Available and willing to relocate to Colorado Springs, Colorado
- Possess or be eligible to hold a Top Secret security clearance
- U.S. Citizen
- Possess or be eligible for immediate Top-Secret clearance.
- Proficient written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to troubleshoot system issues in a timely manner with minimal assistance
- Requires analytical and problem solving skills to analyze data, do research, diagnose and solve problems
- Aptitude to understand and adopt online collaboration tools and design/program management applications
- Critical thinking, risk assessment and decision ability
- Ability to understand business impact and prioritize issues and projects accordingly
- Strong work ethic and flexibility to work as required to meet company milestones
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented and organized.
- Availability and willingness to travel extensively in support of site buildout, operation and sustainment activities
