The Department of Natural Sciences at the University of Houston-Downtown invites applications for a tenure track position in the area of Structural Geology, starting fall 2024. UHD is a teaching university and tenure-track faculty teach 21 contact hours over two long semesters. Applicants with experience in GIS/remote sensing and demonstrated potential for and commitment to working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds are strongly desired.
- Teach lower-level and upper-level geoscience courses as needed
- Curriculum and programmatic improvement
- Establish a successful research program that actively engages undergraduate students
- Seek external funding
- Be active in student recruitment
- Co-teach the summer capstone field course in central Colorado, as needed
- Participation in assessment activities of the geology program
- Engage in department, college, university, and professional service

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in geology at the time of appointment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in undergraduate teaching
- Experience (teaching and/or utility) in Remote Sensing & GIS
- Experience in online teaching
- Experience in or passion for mentoring undergraduate students in research
- Experience in teaching a field geology course
- Demonstrated experience in seeking/obtaining external funding
