Field Operations Specialist

GVAir, a division of Vexcel Imaging, is currently seeking an attentive, detail-oriented candidate to join our team as a Field Operations Specialist in Jacksonville Florida. The Field Operations Specialist’s primary responsibility is to acquire digital imagery, GPS and IMU data while on board a small aircraft, so the candidate must be willing to fly regularly on a small piston powered aircraft. Suitable candidates must be able to get in and out of small aircraft and carry equipment to and from the aircraft. The ability to lift and carry an object weighing up to 25 pounds (11 kg) is also a requirement.
As a Field Operations Specialist with GVAir you will operate camera equipment during flight and you will be routinely traveling up and down the Eastern half of the United States. Typical trips are 2 to 3 weeks away from your home base traveling with your pilot, followed by 1 week at home resting. The schedule fluctuates, so candidates need to have very flexible personal schedules. A typical trip involves spending 2 to 4 days in a city collecting imagery and then moving on to the next city to collect imagery there. During each collection flight, the Sensor Operator (you) will control and monitor the camera system to ensure the collection of high-quality imagery. At the end of a collection day, you will check the quality of your team’s work, upload key collection data to the cloud and then plan your next day’s mission. Your ability to focus on details and a passion for precision & accuracy will be instrumental to your success. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills will make you effective in your role as you work with your Pilot and the Production Management team to manage your daily flight missions.

Additional Essential Functions Include
- Due to aircraft safety requirements, only candidates who can easily get in and out of a small general aviation aircraft will be considered.
- Willingness to fly in a light-twin/single engine aircraft at relatively low altitude with occasional turbulence.
- Able to learn how to operate airborne GPS, digital cameras and IMU equipment during flight.
- Excellent focus as you must monitor navigation equipment during flight to ensure proper tracking and altitude.
- Computer skills as you will download and then upload/ship acquisition imagery data post flight.
- Written skills including preparation & maintenance of flight logs, daily reports, and other paperwork with each flight mission.
- Physical skills as you assist in the removal, repair and installation of airborne Cameras and other sensor equipment.
- Attention to cleanliness as you keep your aircraft and camera system clean before and after each mission.
- Collaboration as you assist the pilot in coordination of each flight.
- Ability to travel up to 75% of the time (domestic) and schedule does include working through weekends, holidays and seasonal deployments that may last up to 4 weeks during peak seasons.
- Must be able to pass a Background Check and DOT Drug Test at the time of the employment offer and accept random drug testing while employed.
Qualifications/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Requirements
- High School diploma required; college degree preferred.
- Must hold Valid Driver’s License.
- Strong interpersonal and communication (written & verbal) skills
- Strong time management skills & ability to multi-task
- Ability to work well and contribute in a team atmosphere
Preferred skills include:
- Ability to assess weather suitability for flight missions
- Strong computer/technical skills (MS Office Suite)
- Strong analytical & problem-solving skills
