The Waldorf School of New Orleans is looking for a caring and capable Assistant Teacher for our mixed-age Kindergarten class.
The position will be a full-time (9am - 5pm) teaching position for the 2024/2025 school year and will hold the After Care program from 3pm-5pm Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and 2pm-5pm on Thursdays.
The Assistant will provide support to the Lead Teacher and hold the After Care program.
Job Responsibilities:
- Participation in all aspects of class rhythm, including naptime, circle time, daily walk, outdoor time, bathroom help, puppetry, gardening, daily snack preparation, washing dishes and ensuring the kitchen area and classroom is always clean
- Helping and supporting the Lead Teacher and other Assistant Teacher(s) at all times
- Providing leadership in times of transition
- Directing questions and concerns to the Lead Teacher, meeting weekly to exchange information, maintain open lines of communication and ensure cohesive work together
- Committing to being a patient and kind role model for the children in our care
- Holding the class for a period of time each day while the Lead Teacher is attending to other tasks
- Attentiveness to and responsiveness to the children at all times and the ability to maintain composure and professionalism even when (and especially when) emotions are high
- Assisting and providing gentle and attentive care to children in the classroom and outdoors
- The ability to be self-directed and step in to fulfill other duties as they arise or are requested by the Lead Teacher or staff

Education & Experience:
- Minimum 3 years experience teaching in an Early Childhood education setting; 5 years preferred
- Experience working in a Waldorf school preferred
- Minimum education: High School diploma; Associates or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education preferred
- Waldorf Teacher Certification preferred
- Working knowledge of and dedication to the principles of Waldorf Education
