POSITION SUMMARY:
The Dosimetrist is a member of the radiation therapy treatment planning with the training and expertise necessary to measure and generate radiation dose distributions and calculations for patients under the direction of the Medical Physicist and the Radiation Oncologist. Essential Functions Statement(s):
- Hybrid work schedule
- Assists in CT simulation process and in contouring critical/normal anatomical structures.
- Discusses with the physician the aim of the treatment, including planned tumor dose and maximum acceptable doses to normal tissue.
- Generates isodose distributions and performs calculations for the accurate delivery of the prescribed dose. Collaborates with the physician to discuss the efficacy and accuracy of the plan.
- Participates in continuing education in current treatment planning techniques and advances in medical dosimetry.
- Calculates required treatment time or monitors setting for delivery of prescribed dose.
- Prepares treatment aids and beam modifying devices, including head holders, molds, shields, cradles, compensators, and others as needed.
- Assists in verification of treatment plans through treatment simulation using CT or conventional radiographic techniques. Assists the therapist staff in the implementation of treatment plans.
- Transfers treatment parameters from planning system to record/verify system.
- Assists in routine quality control program to include weekly chart checks, chart rounds, etc.
- Assists in record keeping and documentation of treatment parameters for all patients undergoing radiation therapy.
- Documents and performs patient-billing information accurately and in a timely manner.
- Conducts periodic QA tests on the treatment planning system following the guidelines established by medical physicist.
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Education and Experience:
- CMD or CMD eligible. Bachelor's degree preferred but not required.
- 2+ years of experience preferred, not required.
- Eclipse/Aria experience preferred, not required.
- Working knowledge of basic radiation safety.
- Must be able to consult with the Radiation Oncologist and Physicist as required.
- Must be able to understand the technical aspects of radiation therapy treatments and communicate these aspects to the Radiation Oncologist and the radiation Therapy Technologist.
