Job Summary
The Behavioral Health Clinician performs licensed clinical activities for clients. The incumbent conducts assessments, performs diagnoses, evaluations, provides direct counseling/therapy and crisis intervention, writes treatment plans, conducts home visits, and prepares progress reports. The incumbent may be required to utilize an array of service treatment models within a multidisciplinary team of providers to build a child and family, or adult focus plan to help the consumer to achieve balance and wellness in their life.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform individual, family, and group counseling in assigned focus area; evaluates needs of client, writes treatment plans, and provides referrals; may provide urgent-care, crisis intervention counseling, in school counseling, or home visits to assess client status and progress.
- Perform case management activities such as consulting with other departments and agencies to coordinate care for clients, make recommendations for outside treatment, and participating in staff meetings to determine best treatment for patients.
- Perform comprehensive assessments of clients; determines level of care and diagnosis, coordinates client eligibility for outside benefit assistance, and orients clients to new programs.
- Enter and maintain clinical notes and all other required clinical documentation pertaining to the client in an Electronic Health Information system, charting patient progress, and treatment.
- Attend meetings and community events as a representative of the department; report on activities and provides educational information about clinical services.
- Attend trainings to update licensure and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Also, must follow all policies and procedures of the TRBHA and regulations of AHCCCS.
- Some positions will require the incumbent to be available for on-call after hours, weekend crisis interventions on a rotation basis, and urgent-care and same-day appointments for the clinic on a rotation basis.
- Perform other duties of a similar nature or level as requested by supervisor or director.
Additional Focus Area Duties and Responsibilities:
Positions Assigned to Centered Spirit Program (CSP) Child and Family Team may also be responsible for:
- Provide case management, individual, family, and group therapy in multiple settings as appropriate (office, in home services and school-based services). Provide consumer therapy for children and their family in the following settings: school based, in-home or office setting.
Positions Assigned to CSP Adult Team may also be responsible for:
- Provide clinical care for adults and their family members (as appropriate), including treatment for chemical dependence, domestic violence, and mental health related issues.
Positions Assigned to Sewa Uusim Program may also be responsible for:
- Provide education to community members on services available for youth and their families, including; early childhood behavioral health, trauma, teen pregnancy, transitional youth issues and substance abuse;
- Implement trainings and workshops in life skills, this includes, but is not limited to the following, Casey Ansell Life Skills Assessment and Training and White Bison programs; and other evidence based and cultural models of service;
- Provide experiential interventions, equine, art, cultural based models, and other expressive interventions such as relaxation, yoga, or wellness programs;
- Community service providers, with a focus on helping Yoeme Youth and young children to achieve balance in their life through counseling, prevention and education cultural and natural support intervention;
- Certified in Equine Assisted Therapy (EAT), or Equine Facilitated Learning (EFL), or Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy (EFP) is preferred but not required.
Positions Assigned to Member Services Program may also be responsible for:
- Perform counselor of the day activities, which may include responding to crisis;
- Act as the gatekeeper of urgent customer service request for treatment; will determine the need for immediate treatment after the initial assessments;
- Review intake forms and documentation, presents the information to the treatment team for determination of appropriate treatment protocols and counselor assignment.
Positions Assigned to New Beginnings may also be responsible for:
- Coordinate services with other behavioral health components such as Domestic Violence, Alcohol and Substance Abuse Program and other Tribal programs;
- Certification as an ACCUDETOX Specialist through the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association preferred for positions working with substance abuse.
Positions Assigned to a Substance Abuse and/or Diversion Programs may also be responsible for:
- Provide clinical therapy for adults, including treatment for chemical dependence, domestic violence, and mental health issues;
- Work with clients who are part of a court ordered or voluntary substance abuse diversion program;
- Focus on providing a means to address the root-cause or primary contributing factors of those tribal members, who have a Substance Use Disorder (SUD) with the goal of reducing the recidivism rate of those individuals in the justice system;
- Certification as an ACUDETOX Specialist through the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association preferred for positions working with substance abuse.
Positions Assigned to Social Services Child Protective Services may also be responsible for:
- Coordinate Children Services Program for Therapy component, this may include developing program procedures and training Child Services staff in conducting preliminary assessments;
- Provide parent training and consultations regarding children's developmental and behavioral health issues;
- Provide positive summer recreational/therapeutic activities for youth in and out of child welfare care.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Counseling practices and procedures;
- Management of behavioral health crises, including risk assessment, crisis intervention techniques, crisis resources, and hospitalization protocols;
- Applicable theories and principles related to area of assignment;
- Applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations;
- HIPAA and confidentiality requirements of Behavioral Health;
- Adhere to all clinical documentation regulations, including due dates and prompt entry of clinical documentation
- Conflict mediation principles;
- Report writing methods;
- English language, grammar, and punctuation;
- Yaqui culture, customs, resources and traditions and/or a willingness to learn.
Skills and Abilities:
- Provide counseling in an individual and group setting;
- Work with dual diagnosis issues, serious emotional disorders (SED) and general mental health concerns;
- Respond to a crisis situation;
- Identify and use the appropriate clinical interventions based on the consumer's presenting problems using Diagnoses Models DSM-IV TR, and ICD-10;
- Submit assessments, treatment plans, progress notes and other required clinical documentation accurately and on time and be able to track when updates are due;
- Interpret and apply applicable laws, rules, and regulations;
- Analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions, and implement recommendations in support of goals;
- Resolve conflict;
- Manage change and sensitive topics;
- Operate a variety of office equipment, including a computer and related software applications;
- Good communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with co-workers, supervisor, management, Council members, and the public. Have ability to sufficiently exchange or convey information and receive verbal and written work instructions.
Education, Certifications and Experience Required
Master's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Behavioral Health, or related field and two (2) years of supervised clinical experience.
AND
- Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred, but not required;
- Experience in a Wrap-around Therapy model is preferred;
- Successful work history with Indian populations and or other ethnic groups preferred.
