Job Duties
Reviews patient data prior to each office visit for relevant clinical updates, laboratory, x-ray and other test results.
When rooming patients, obtains medical and social history, chief complaint and/or history of present illness, completes appropriate assessments (e.g., vital signs, height, weight), and reviews & updates the medications list. Document all data obtained in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
Prepare patient for examination, set up any necessary equipment.
Assist physician with procedures and examinations which are within scope of training and as ordered by physician.
Demonstrates sterile technique during procedures and adheres to safe operating guidelines for all departmental equipment.
Provides accurate and timely procedure scheduling with minimal errors.
Obtains signatures from patients on appropriate forms for procedures; including but not limited to Medicare/Medicaid waiver, ABN, consent forms and authorization to treat minors.
Administers oral, intradermal, subcutaneous, allergy antigens, oxygen, and other in-office medications and immunizations as ordered by the physician.
Utilizes the specimen log for all outgoing specimens, i.e.) biopsies, cultures.
Confers with the patient and physicians regarding scheduling priorities for acute and routine visits.
Utilizes the EMR to enter and/schedule all patient referrals, diagnostic services, tests, procedures etc. as ordered by the physician. Obtains and documents prior authorization as needed.
In collaboration with physician, provides the patient and family with appropriate education regarding medications, treatments, tests, procedures, results, and dietary recommendations. Document all information in the EMR.
Receives and responds to telephone requests from patients under the direction of the physician and/or nurse practitioner. Documents the request, contact information, physician response, patient follow up and any other pertinent information in the EMR.
Medications, pharmacy and allergies should be reviewed and updated during each patient telephone encounter.
Implements and positively reinforces physician/provider orders and/or treatment methodologies.
Provides practice-specific care to meet the needs and behaviors of patients based on the patient’s age and assessed level of growth and development for all stages of life.
Cleans the patient exam room and maintains patient flow through the office by efficiently utilizing exam rooms.
Maintains an adequate amount of supplies in each exam room.
Restocks department supplies, monitors supply usage, and requests to have supplies reordered in a timely manner.
Ensures that all medications, stock, samples, and drug coupons are current and securely locked. Logs sample medications according to P&P. Maintains security for all schedule ll drugs in double locked cabinet/box.
Maintains daily control logs for Compliance including but not limited to daily refrigerator/freezer temperatures, waive testing controls, and daily disinfecting of exam rooms and tables, work surfaces and equipment.
Sterilizes, repacks and labels instruments in accordance with practice guidelines. Completes monitoring and testing of sterilizers as required; maintain biological log.
Adheres to all policies for compliance with ISDH, OSHA, CLIA, HIPAA, HFAP and any other appropriate regulatory agencies.
Utilizes universal precautions in handling infectious/hazardous waste material.
Maintains current knowledge base and stays current with healthcare trends by reading professional journals/literature, attending CME’s, completing all required WebInservices, and seminar/conference attendance as approved by the Manager.
Education and Experience
Graduation certificate from an accredited Medical Assistant program or graduation from an accredited nursing program required.
Experience preferred but not required.

Registered Medical Assistant- American Medical Technologist
Certified Clinical Medical Assistant- National Health career Association
National Certified Medical Assistant- National Center for Competency Testing
Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant- National Association for Health Professionals
Registered Medical Assistant- American Allied Health
Certified Medical Assistant Clinical- American Medical Certification Association
Active LPN license in state of employment
Active RN license in state of employment
CPR provider certification required.
