MOMMAS House Volunteer Coordinator Job Description
This position is responsible for planning, organizing and directing the volunteer programs associated with the MOMMAS House organization’s mission.
MOMMAS House is a home for young mothers aged 18 to 24 years and their babies. For approximately two years, the young mothers at MOMMAS House continue education or vocational experience interrupted by pregnancy. With guidance and direction, the young mothers can learn to support themselves and their children independently.

The right fit for this position needs to be compassionate, professional and flexible. The individual in this position will need to be able to harness and utilize the available volunteer base to help fulfill the various needs of the organization. Must have excellent skills in: communication, judgment, problem-solving, interpersonal relations, multi-tasking. Need to be secure in self and abilities, and confident in handling problems as they arise. Need to be open to learning and accepting guidance from supervisors.
Essential Functions
- Organizes, coordinates and manages the recruitment of volunteers for the various programs, committees and departments of the organization.
- Works with social, civic and local organizations to develop partnerships, where appropriate, to develop and/or utilize volunteers.
- Develops and implements training programs for all volunteers.
- Maintains updated records on all volunteers (accurate data entry).
- Arrange and facilitate volunteer meetings. Report to staff on volunteer activities as needed.
- Recommends and develops ongoing volunteer utilization.
- Develops and implements a volunteer recognition program.
- Answer and respond to telephone, email and written communication.

Communication – Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Fluent in English.
Collaboration Skills, Teamwork Orientation – Must be able to collaborate and show others how to work together to complete tasks.
Organizational Skills – must be able to manage schedule and assignment of volunteers.
Technical Capacity – Must be proficient with computers. Position requires internet usage, email, data entry, social media usage, etc.
Presentation Skills – will be required to make group presentations to recruit and orient new volunteers.
Time Management
Work Environment & Travel
Majority of work will be done in office in Levittown, some can be done remotely from home. However volunteer coordinator must often travel to other nearby locations for recruitment of volunteers and management of volunteer projects (i.e. a volunteer recruitment fair at a local university or community event). Therefore it is important that the candidate can drive and has a vehicle.Travel is primarily local, within Nassau County and nearby areas (Suffolk, Queens). Out-of-the-area and overnight travel is not expected.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a part-time position (8-25 hours / week) that could expand to or at times be a full-time position. Days and hours of work may vary depending on job duties. Will require employee to be in main office in Levittown average of 1-2 days per week, increase hours around events a few times a year. Evening and weekend work may occasionally (not often) be required as job duties demand for special events or volunteer projects. Employee must be flexible in schedule in order to meet the duties of the job.
Preferred Education and Experience
Minimum High School Degree, prefer secondary education.
Prefer experience working in volunteer management, nonprofit organization, human resources, but not required.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; stand; walk; climb stairs and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move objects of reasonable weight (i.e. supplies, marketing materials, donations, etc.).
