JOB TITLE: Substitute Teacher
TERM: 10 month/as needed
STATUS: On-call /Exempt
Position Summary:
The East Valley Institute of Technology (EVIT) is currently accepting applications for On-Call Substitute Teachers.
EVIT is a public career and technical education district that offers career training for East Valley high school students and adults at four central campuses in Mesa, and Apache Junction.
Essential Functions: The substitute teacher, as a special faculty member of the District, is responsible for:
- Assuming normal duties and responsibilities of the classroom teacher.
- Reporting to the office of the administrator upon arrival at the assigned school.
- Maintaining high professional standards in contacts with students, other teachers, and parents or guardians.
- Adhering to rules and regulations that pertain to a specific assignment.
- Implementing the program of the regular classroom teacher as outlined in the lesson plans.
- Adhering to the hours of the school day.
- Seeking guidance in any unusual situation.
- Reporting, in summary form, progress and activities of the day for the benefit of the regular classroom teacher.
WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Classroom and lab area will be provided for the substitute teacher, where students may work with the substitute teacher individually or in-groups.
- A desk, computer workstation, a printer, and telephone are available for the substitute teacher. Duties performed typically in school settings to include: classrooms, auditorium, computer labs and student break room areas.
- The substitute teacher may be exposed to dangerous chemicals or may operate hazardous equipment related to the training area.
- Positions in this class typically require: reaching, finger dexterity, and grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
- Frequent walking, standing, stooping, lifting, up to approximately 30 pounds and occasional lifting of equipment and/or materials weighing up to 40 pounds may be required.
- Other physical activities may be required.
- Occasional travel with students on field trips may be necessary.
- Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise and hazards.
- Occasional movement of students by wheelchairs and other mechanical devices may be required. Regular
Instruction to special needs students may be necessary.
- Daily personal and close contact with students to provide classroom management and learning environment support is required on assigned days.
- Regular contact with other staff members and building administrator(s) is required on assigned days as a substitute.

Licensing /Certification and Other Requirements:
- Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
- A valid Arizona CTE teaching certificate OR a valid Arizona substitute certificate
ADA and Other Requirements: Positions in this class typically require: climbing, crawling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, fingering, standing, walking, pushing, reaching, lifting, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
