Primary Function:
Under the general direction of Home Office, the Manager is responsible for the daily operations of the store. The Store Manager will ensure that company directives are implemented to maximize sales, meticulously manage store inventory, and provide the highest level of customer service.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
- Ensures Inventory is properly managed by accurately following receiving procedures, point of sale procedures, and physical inventory count procedures.
- Maintains sales floor stock levels and cleanliness to company standard.
- Administers performance reviews and participates in performance discussions with employees (when applicable by location staffing).
- Ensures store compliance with any regulatory issues and company policies.
- Maintains open communication with the Home Office to address any issues requiring additional management intervention. Escalates issues when appropriate.
- May take and respond to emergency calls after hours.
- Must be able to lift loads of 50 lbs. unassisted and heavier loads with assistance
- Other duties as assigned.
Preferred Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent; college degree preferred but not required
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Minimum of 3 years retail store management experience.
- Commitment to providing excellent customer service, sales and development of other associates.
- Demonstrates competence in the use of computers and software applications – especially Excel, Google Sheets and email clients.
- Must be skilled in the composition of emails in a professional setting.
- Good interpersonal, communication and relationship building skills with internal team members and external customers.
- Ability to adapt to shifting demands and competing priorities.
- Strong problem solving, organizational and decision-making skills with the ability to drive results.
- Ability to train people on process, procedures, compliance and product knowledge.
- Must pass a post-offer, pre-employment criminal background check.
Work Environment:
- Store is open from 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM Monday - Friday (scheduled hours are 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM) and 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM on Saturdays (scheduled Saturday hours are 9:30 AM - 2:30 PM). Saturday hours are only applicable during the academic year when students are on campus, or for any special events that may arise where the school asks us to be open. The store is only open a few Sundays throughout the year for event weekends, such as Graduation Weekend, Family Weekend & Reunion Weekend.
- Labor Day Weekend is a required work weekend, as that is when the students return to campus for fall registration.
- Daily interaction with Supervisor, HLSC Home Office staff, employees, and customers (students of varying grade levels, parents of students, school alumni, and school faculty/staff).
- Stores are located on school campuses.
- May supervise hourly employees, depending on volume of store.
- Work is performed on a sales floor and in a stockroom, with a moderate noise level and regular distractions. Majority of time is spent standing and walking.
- Physical requirements include reaching, grasping, climbing, standing and bending and lifting loads up to 50 lbs unassisted, heavier loads with assistance.
- Some time may be spent in different areas around the campus when needed.
- May have to travel to another store within the company when/if needed for short periods of time, i.e. covering a shift or picking up transferred merchandise.
- Minimum of 40 hours per work week, more as required during busier times.
- Able and willing to work extended hours and weekends as required.
