Position Overview
The SEED Network seeks a Controller to be an overall administrative and operational leader in the day-to-day accounting and financial systems across the network (SEED schools and The SEED Foundation). This will be a hybrid role at the SEED Schools and remotely.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Work in partnership with the Network Chief Financial Officer to facilitate overall school improvement, and to support all program improvements with effective operational and administrative services and a strong client service ethic to support all students and faculty.
- Work with the Network Chief Financial Officer to prepare all reports to meet regulatory requirements required by the SEED Boards, by federal and state law, and other internal and external reporting that may be required.
- Oversee the monthly closing of the books on a timely basis ensuring a ‘no surprises’ environment.
- Work with the external auditors in coordination with the Network Chief Financial Officer to ensure a timely annual audit.
- Serves as the point of contact for the trustee of the 403B plan and coordinates the annual plan audit.
- Works closely with the Senior Federal Grants Management to support the financial aspects of the various Federal Grant Submissions. Ensure all Grants are properly monitored and billed in a timely manner.
- Maintain and enforce fiscal policies for the organization and ensure everyone works under a culture of fiscal accountability and ethics.
- Assist the Network Chief Financial Officer with all financial, budget and planning activities including reviewing and analyzing financial reports, overseeing business policies and accounting practices.
- Supervises and develops staff by managing performance, setting goals, providing ongoing training, and building strong employee relationships.
- Performing other tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Competencies
The Controller will possess the following:

- Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business from an accredited university.
- CPA is valued, but not required.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience, preferably in a school setting or mid-sized entity that has dealt with government regulations, and extensive experience with staff supervisory and budgetary management experience is required.
- Federal grant experience is required.
- Prior experience in interacting and presenting to boards and senior level management is preferred.
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment; adaptable when managing multiple, shifting priorities; ease at managing competing demands and determining priorities independently.
- Outstanding organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to work under pressure and manage projects with a high degree of accuracy and limited direction.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to communicate complex ideas simply and succinctly.
- Strong computer and technology skills; proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, familiarity with Google docs, and interest in and ability to learn new platforms. Experience with financial software is a plus.
- Strong judgment and collaborative decision-making skills.
- Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and charter authorizer requirements.
- Team-player capable of working both collaboratively and independently.
