Job Description/Scop of Work:
Sanford Federal, Inc. is seeking a an experienced Special Education Teacher/Administrator with a deep understanding of federal and South Dakota special education laws and regulations. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of success in reservation schools, with a strong focus on serving Native American students. The candidate will provide compliance oversight, direct student services, staff development, and program enhancement for our K-1st and 7th-12th grade special education programs.
Responsibilities :
- Compliance and Policy:
- Ensure adherence to state and federal special education laws, regulations, and eligibility requirements.
- Assist in enforcing special education policies and procedures.
- Stay informed on federal funding sources for special education and manage relevant processes.
- Student Services:
- Oversee the development and implementation of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
- Coordinate transportation and residential placement for students with disabilities, as needed.
- Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to provide comprehensive services for students.
- Engage effectively with parents/guardians to ensure collaboration and support.
- Staff Development & Program Improvement
- Provide training and development opportunities for special education staff.
- Offer program recommendations to enhance service delivery and outcomes.
- Inventory and manage special education equipment.
- Recordkeeping & Administration
- Meticulously compile, maintain, and file all special education reports, records, and documents.
- Complete reports according to strict deadlines.
- Meet regularly with administration and attend required meetings.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Master's Degree in School Administration or a related field from an accredited university.
- Valid South Dakota teaching certification with a special education endorsement.
- Experience:
- Minimum of five years as a Special Education Teacher AND Administrator in two or more South Dakota schools, with strong preference for reservation schools.
- Demonstrated experience in creating culturally responsive systems and practices to support Native American students.
- Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
- Excellent leadership, organization, and communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders (teachers, parents, administration).
- Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities.
