Role:
The Legislative Assistant assists the Tribal Council Secretary with all aspects of their duties as a leader of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation. This position ensures that all constituent concerns received by the Tribal Council Secretary's office are addressed in a professional and courteous manner, acts as a monitor and advocates for Federal Government actions that will impact the Nation, and assists the Tribal Council Secretary with ensuring the Federal Government's responsibilities pursuant to treaty obligations continue to be honored. Other central duties may include advocating for Native American Indian culture, persons, and business enterprises.

Minimum Requirements:
Driving: Must have a valid driver's license and be insurable with the Nation's insurance.
Experience:3-5 years of experience as an Administrative Assistant or an Executive Assistant
Education: HS Diploma/GED
Interpersonal Skills: A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact. Work involves personal contact with others and/or can be of a personal or business nature. Developing constructive and cooperative relationships with people outside the organization by representing the Nation's government center via person, in writing, by telephone, or email is essential.
Knowledge:

Administrative: Knowledge of administrative and office procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, stenography, and transcription, designing forms, and workplace terminology.

English Language: Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.

Customer and Personal Service: Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.

Computers and Electronics: Knowledge of general office equipment including a computer, printer, copier, scanner, fax, telephone, telephone switchboard, cell phone and mail metering system.

Tribal Knowledge: General knowledge of Indian tribes, specifically the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation (general history, law, policies, procedures, community knowledge)
