We are seeking a skilled Senior Automation Engineer to join our manufacturing support team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the efficient operation of automated systems within our manufacturing processes. As an Automation Engineer, you will collaborate with production teams to identify opportunities for optimization, troubleshoot control and mechanical system issues, and implement improvements to enhance productivity and quality.
Let's talk about Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues with large and small automated systems including: PLCs, HMI devices, Pneumatics, Servo Motors, Vision Systems, Robotics and Manufacturing Execution Systems
- Support maintenance and troubleshoot mechanical, controls, and networking systems
- Investigate and troubleshoot manufacturing issues with a sense of urgency to prevent line down situations, and implement countermeasures to prevent repetitive breakdowns.
- Analyze current processes to develop and implement continuous improvement initiatives
- Understand and contribute to software development lifecycle, including code analysis (Machines-PLC-Software). Make software changes to implement improvements, understanding the required validation and testing requirements that accompany many software changes
- Develop and maintain knowledge in database concepts, SQL, high-level or scripting languages, and cloud platforms like AWS and Snowflake
- Partner with the Software and Data Teams to understand and implement data collection and product traceability requirements and resolve issues on software deployments
- Interface automation equipment with high level software tools to aggregate machine data in a meaningful way to support internal data analytics
- Maintain, support and utilize device specific configurations using vendor supplied software for devices such as barcode scanners, vision systems, servo drives, and measurement systems
- Mentor technicians and support personnel
- Deliver projects successfully in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Work with equipment vendors during the design, implementation, FAT and SAT stages of new equipment acquisition to ensure systems will meet our needs and reach the desired company goals
- Occasional travel to support equipment development and commissioning
- Willingness to support operations in after-hours downtime situations as needed
Let's talk about Qualifications and Experience
- B.S. in Electrical, mechanical or mechatronic engineering or equivalent
- Minimum 5 years of hands on experience with automated control systems and machinery
- Working experience with PLCs, robots, machine vision, servos, HMIs and various sensor technologies utilized in modern automation systems
- Should have a very strong mechanical aptitude, with the ability to analyze the mechanical and controls interactions in automated processes
- Experience with current safety standards, including ISO, IEC and OSHA
- Proven software skills in various languages, including PLC ladder logic, Operator interface (HMI) design, structured text, Fanuc robot code, Python, SQL, LabView, Ignition, etc.
- Proven experience with pneumatic and mechanical systems, including the ability to read, understand, and modify mechanical drawings, electrical and pneumatic schematics
- Experience in networked and distributed IO, EthernetIP and IOLink
- Excellent analytical skills are required. You will be expected to understand advanced automation systems, and be able to troubleshoot problems, suggest improvements and implement these changes in a production environment.
- Experience with design software (AutoCad, AutoCad Electrical, Solidworks)
- Excellent computer and communication skills are a must
- Must be able to take tasks from concept through development and execution with minimal oversight.
- Must be able to work with other disciplines such as production, maintenance technicians, mechanical engineers, manufacturing engineers and management in a cooperative, collaborative and professional manner

At ResMed, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range for this position is:
$110,000 to $166,000 USD Annual
