OSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Controls Engineer oversees complex control system projects and ensures their integrity and success. They drive innovation, mentor teams, and play a pivotal role in strategic planning and project execution within the control engineering domain.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Responsibilities
- Design and modify existing machine control solutions (electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and robotic).
- Develop and modify PLC programs (Allen Bradley, Wago).
- Develop and modify Robot programs (Fanuc, Shibaura Machine [Toshiba]).
- Work with Motion Controllers and HMI’s.
- Integrate multiple PLCs/Robots into cohesive turn-key system solutions.
- Configure peripheral devices to suit customer applications (Barcode scanners, 2D/3D machine vision, VFD/MDR controllers, etc.).
- Proficiently read and utilize electrical prints to troubleshoot 24V control and industrial power systems.
- Work with internal hardwired devices, logic standards, and general specifications.
- Work with customers to support machinery and installation needs.
- Implement various industrial and commercial communication protocols to transfer process control data to/from internal and external WMS/WCS/WES.
- Processing data transactions in/out of SQL Server, Postgres, and other modern relational databases.
- Coordinate with Software Engineers to develop, maintain, and troubleshoot database managed control solutions.
- Provide critical input for both control and overarching system design, working in tandem with engineers of all disciplines.
- Perform detailed system analysis for general continuous improvement, KPI optimization, and RCA.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor degree in engineering or related field. Controls engineering is preferred.
Qualifications
- 7+ years automation/controls engineering experience, Mechatronics background preferred.
- Demonstrated experienced with Rockwell Automation/CODESYS PLCs/HMIs
- Demonstrated experienced with Structured Text
- Experience developing industrial robot code
- Familiar with industrial automation machinery.
Preferred Qualifications
- Intermediate+ proficiency in at least one Procedural Programming Language.
- Intermediate+ proficiency in at least one Object-Oriented Programming Language.
- Experience with SCADA and telemetry systems.
- Experience with MQTT communications (Sparkplug, Mosquito, etc.).
- Experience with OPC-UA communications (Ignition, Node-RED, etc.).
- Familiar with industrial conveyors, particularly 24V DC
Required Skills
- Intermediate Microsoft Office skills.
- Knowledge of ACAD Electrical.
- Good written and oral communications.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to develop plans, make timely decisions, and set priorities with sense of urgency.
- Ability to read equipment wiring schematics and create input/output lists from schematics.
- Familiarity with UL508A, NFPA 79, NEC, and IEC codes and standards.
Education: Bachelor degree in engineering or related field. Controls engineering is preferred.
Preferred Skills
- Extensive experience in control system design and project leadership.
- Profound expertise in control system software, analysis, and industry standards.
- Proven leadership, strategic planning, and junior development.
- Extensive knowledge of best safety practices for handling various voltages/currents.
- Experience in equipment or large-scale automation projects using Allen Bradley, Siemens, GE etc.
SPECIAL DEMANDS
- Ability to walk, stand and squat to examine and troubleshoot equipment.
- Ability to handle basic hand tools and diagnostic equipment.
- Willing to travel. (Up to 10%).
