Position Overview: The responsibility for this role is very wide ranged, thus requires thorough knowledge of various manufacturing processes. As a shift lead, you will work closely with the shift supervisor to ensure the plant production floor is running as expected. This position reports directly to the shift supervisor and is expected to fill in for that supervisor in the event they are absent.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Overseeing production team to ensure consistent product quality.
- Ensure the production schedule is being met.
- Fill in for shift supervisor in times of absence.
- Assign job duties and tasks to all production associates within the shift (EPS packers, gel packers, outside support and material handlers).
- Ensure associate’s breaks are as scheduled.
- Responsible for the training and documentation of associates.
- Preform quality inspections including: cycle time, weight, water leaks, cosmetic defects, correct packing, box count audits, etc.
- Work closely with the shift supervisor and the production schedule to ensure all scheduled presses are running and report presses that are not running or not meeting quality expectations.
- Make sure safety is of extreme importance and report all unsafe conditions immediately to shift supervisor.
- Complete all necessary production documents such as hourly press audit sheets, scrap & downtime tracking, and the proper reporting of completed production.
- Responsible for monitoring & reporting the status of work orders and timely movement of finished product/scrap to the appropriate locations.
- Maintain high levels of housekeeping and organization on the production floor.
- Communicate status of production at the end of shift with the following production shift leadership.
- Maintain an open and candid working relationship with all coworkers in discussing matters of importance.
- Adhere to established company values, practices, policies and procedures at all times.
- Follow and support compliance with all applicable safety rules, laws and regulations and standards.
- Any other responsibilities or duties assigned by management.
Skills, Abilities and Knowledge
- Dependability - Work hard each day to ensure that equipment efficiency and customer satisfaction is of upmost importance. Arrive and depart in a timely manner and respectively observe the given break schedule.
- Previous experience and solid knowledge of manufacturing processes.
- Ability to occasionally work overtime and weekends when demands are high.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Positive attitude and driven team player.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills (verbal and written).
- Ability to use basic math skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, sometimes high stress environment for required hours.
- Excellent attention to detail for product quality and safety purposes.
Education & Experience
- One to two years of experience in the role of manufacturing lead or supervisor.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Bilingual preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to operate in a high heat environment.
- Prolonged periods standing and walking.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
