Job Summary
We are seeking a
Registered Nurse to join our team. In this role, you will primarily be creating and managing a plan of care for individual patients. You are a Registered Nurse (RN) who operates with great attention to detail and a big heart. You take pride in creating personalized care plans for Participant and are able to observe and communicate effectively in your participant's best interest. To succeed, you should have demonstrated knowledge and skill in current nursing practices as well as a strong penchant for solving problems.
Responsibilities/Implementation: Performance Measures
- Performs a nursing assessments in accordance with the Developmental Disabilities Administration’s Health and Wellness Standards;
- Assist in the development of the Health Care Management Plan (HCMP);
- Coordinates the person's care and referrals;
- Administering medications and treatment as prescribed by a legally authorized healthcare professional licensed in the District of Columbia or consistent with the requirements in the jurisdiction where services are provided;
- Administering medication or oversight of licensed medication administration personnel;
- Provides oversight and supervision to the direct support staff when delegating and assigning nursing interventions;
- Provides updates to Department on Disability Services (DDS) quarterly and more frequently as needed, if there are any changes to the person's needs or physician's order;
- Training the person, direct support staff, licensed practical nurse (LPN), family, caregivers, and any other individual, as needed; and
- Recording progress notes during each visit that meet standards of nursing care and include the following:
- Any unusual health or behavioral events or changes in status;
- Any matter requiring follow-up on the part of the service provider or DDS; and
- Clearly written records that contain a statement of the person's progress or lack of progress, medical conditions, functional losses, and treatment goals that demonstrate that the person's services are and continue to be reasonable and necessary.
- Submit summary notes at least quarterly and submit quarterly reports in accordance with the requirements in Section 1909 (Records and Confidentiality of information) of Chapter 19 of Title 29 DCMR.
- Currently licensed Registered Nurse (RN) in state of employment
- Previous experience as a Registered Nurse is preferred
- Excellent interpersonal and client care skills
- Valid driver’s license
- First aid/CPR certification required
Implementation:
- Identifies the persons care requirements by establishing personal rapport with potential and actual patients and other persons in a position to understand care requirements.
- Establishes a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to the persons we serve, friends, and families.
- Promotes independence by establishing the person's care goals; teaching the individual, friends, and family to understand condition, medications, and self-care skills; answering questions.
- Assures quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards; measuring health outcomes against patient care goals and standards; making or recommending necessary adjustments; following hospital and nursing division's philosophies and standards of care set by state board of nursing, state nurse practice act, and other governing agency regulations.
- Resolves problems and needs of the person by utilizing multidisciplinary team strategies.
- Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations; calling for assistance from health care support personnel.
- Protects the person and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
- Documents care services by charting in the persons and department records.
- Maintains continuity among nursing teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.

- Ensures operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
- Maintains nursing supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies; using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; and participating in professional societies.
- Maintains a cooperative relationship among health care teams by communicating information; responding to requests; building rapport; participating in team problem-solving methods.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Qualifications
- Currently licensed Registered Nurse (RN) in state of employment
- Associates in nursing, Bachelor of Science in nursing or diploma from an approved nursing program.
- Previous experience as a Registered Nurse is preferred
- Excellent interpersonal and client care skills
- Valid driver’s license
- First aid/CPR certification required
