The Folger Shakespeare Library, located on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, is seeking an Assistant Curator to join the curatorial team. This individual, under the supervision of the Associate Librarian for Collection Care and Development/Andrew W. Mellon Curator of Early Modern Books and Prints, will work collaboratively with the curatorial team to build, steward, interpret, and promote the Folger’s special collections holdings, and will work with colleagues across the Folger to connect the collection to all aspects of institution-wide programming. They will work alongside a wide range of internal and external researchers, teachers, students, and Folger staff to engage with under-utilized parts of the collection and to promote use of the collection in innovative ways. In accordance with our collection development policy, they will help identify acquisitions that foreground diverse voices and perspectives. They will work across Collections teams to set priorities for cataloging, conservation, and digitization and will be a key member of the exhibition team. They will uphold and demonstrate the highest professional ethical standards for curatorship and work collaboratively with all staff to nourish a positive and healthy workplace.
The schedule for this role is Monday-Friday 8:45 am-4:45 pm. This position will be primarily on-site with the possibility of hybrid modality. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance to the DC office (DC, MD, VA) by their start date.
