The Farm Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Hope Community Services Therapeutic Farm. The Farm Coordinator is responsible for providing necessary animal care, and overseeing Animal Caretakers to maintain the well-being of all animals at the Farm facility. The Farm Coordinator oversees and helps manage the Farm property to help maintain aesthetic and safety standards for staff, members, and animals; coordinates with outside landscaping contractors; and coordinates and/or completes in house projects.
Responsibilities:
- Supervises Animal Caretakers by providing performance management and monthly administrative supervisions;
- Maintains and enforces feeding, exercise, enrichment, cleaning, medication, and other general care guidelines and schedules;
- Provides direct animal care according to established instructions and schedules including but not limited to grooming, exercise, feeding, and enrichment;
- Maintain habitat guidelines to ensure physical, emotional, and mental needs of therapeutic animals are being met;
- Observes animals to identify and diagnose signs of injury, illness, or disease and coordinates with CEO in identifying best course of treatment;
- Maintains records of relevant animal information including but not limited to weight, physical condition, emotional stressors, diet, feeding schedule, and medications;
- Coordinates with outside contractors and vendors to complete identified property maintenance as needed and supports completion of those property maintenance and improvement projects that can be completed in house;
- Provides any necessary preparatory and follow up care for horses participating in session;
- Maintain a professional relationship with coworkers and members;
- Be prompt in keeping appointments and adhering to agreed-upon schedules;
- Be an active participant in the weekend on-call schedule;
- Monitors and maintains Farm grounds, including but not limited to trash clean up, coordinating with vendors, and repair work;
Expertise & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent;
- Minimum of 2 years supervisory experience;
- Animal handling and care experience;
- Ability to read horse and other animal body language/nonverbal communication;
- Excellent problem-solving skills;
- Ability to follow instructions;
- Equine groundwork experience;
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite;
- Be at least 21 years of age.
Physical:
- Must be able to work mornings, weekends, on-call, and holidays.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
- Must be able to stand, walk, and climb stairs frequently.
- Must be able to work in an environment with exposure to disinfectant/sanitation chemicals, animal dander and excretions.
- Must be able to work in an outdoor setting with potential exposure to inclement weather.
