Job Description:
American Scientific Labs, Inc. is searching for a candidate that will perform laboratory tests under the close supervision of a senior technician. Typically works with biohazard materials. Responsible for laboratory maintenance, preparing solutions and media.
Responsibilities:
- Specimen receiving and accessioning.
- Conduct chemical analysis of bodily fluids, such as blood and urine, using microscope or automatic analyzer to detect abnormalities or diseases, and enter findings into computer.
- Analyze the results of test and experiments to ensure conformity to specifications, using special mechanical and electrical devices.
- This position performs a variety of routine and special laboratory procedures as authorized by the Manager or Director including rotation through at least three (3) areas of the Clinical Lab: Blood Bank, Hematology, Biochemistry, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Immuno-Serology, Bacteriology, and Specimen Processing.
- Operates requisite laboratory equipment and instruments; records data; maintains and makes minor adjustments to equipment.
- Uses sterile techniques to avoid contaminating lab experiments.
- Uses universal safety precautions to protect self and co-workers from biohazard materials, including blood-borne pathogens.
- Complies with biohazard safety standards through proper handling of potentially hazardous chemical and biological agents in the workplace.
- Completes annual laboratory biohazard/universal precaution safety training, as appropriate.
Specifications:
- Work produced is subject to precise measures of quantity and quality.
- Continuous exposure to specimens and material considered infectious and/or bio-hazardous such as airborne particles, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals in this work environment which mandate attention to safety considerations.
- Near vision to see objects clearly within 20 inches.
- Sharp focus to adjust vision when doing close work that changes in distance from eyes.
- Full spectrum vision to identify and distinguish color.
- Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s), for example, using a keyboard.
- Handling by seizing, holding, grasping, turning or otherwise working with the hand or hands, but without finger dexterity.
- Sitting in a normal seated position for extended periods of time.
- Occasionally lifting, carrying objects weighing 10 lbs. or less.
- Ability to move about laboratory and work efficiently.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological, clinical laboratory science or medical technology program from an accredited institution.
- Preferred MT (ASCP) or equivalent.
- Minimum of two (2) years laboratory experience in high complexity testing.
