Responsible for the protection of life and property by combating, extinguishing and preventing fires. Work includes the use of fire and rescue equipment at the scene of emergencies. Employees are responsible for maintaining, inspecting and cleaning department vehicles and other associated equipment. Standards and procedures are established, however, independent judgment is required of the employee during emergency incidents. Duties occasionally involve strenuous exertion under hazardous conditions of extreme heat, smoke and confined spaces.
