Position: Railroad Electric Flash-butt Welding Operator
Wage Range: $27.00-$34.00 / Hourly
Job Type: Full-Time
Electric Flash-butt Welding Operator is responsible for driving, operating, diagnosing and maintaining a mobile electric flash-butt welding machine. Work includes driving welding truck (CDL required) to and from work locations, setting welding truck on track, driving truck on hi-rail, deploying welding equipment, preparing rail ends for welding, ensuring proper rail geometry, operating welding machine to make electric flash-butt welds, ensuring welds are within specification and properly finished. Responsibilities also include maintaining the unit, troubleshooting and repairing issues in the field (mechanical, electric, hydraulic), and keeping the unit in a state of good repair.
Essential Functions:
- Perform electric flash-butt welds on railroad rails.
- Function-test, and perform diagnostics and repairs, while communicating effectively with remote support technicians.
- Use hand and power tools to complete repair and maintenance tasks.
- Work alongside heavy equipment in a noisy environment.
- Maintain mobile parts inventory.
- Participate in safety meetings.
- Wear all appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Complete daily production reporting.
Required Abilities:
- Willing and able to travel to, and remain on, various job sites; 100% travel to be expected. Lodging and Per Diem provided for all work-related travel.
- Knowledge of railroad rail welding and electric flash-butt welding equipment
- Knowledge of hydraulic, electrical and pneumatic circuits and systems, including testing and diagnostics.
- Able to work before, during and after the shift to ensure readiness of equipment on a daily basis. This may include weekends
- Interact effectively with shop and field employees.
- Understand and follow verbal and visual communications.
- Understand and respond to audible and visual signals and warnings.
- Recognize, avoid and report potential hazards.
Other Requirements:
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must have a valid CDL.
- Applicant must be currently authorized to work permanently in the United States.
- Applicant must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check Job.
- Subject to FRA Random Drug Testing.
- Capable of lifting and carrying a minimum of 50 pounds.
- Capable of working in inclement weather and/or conditions.
- Capable of working in crouched, bent, kneeling, and overhead positions.
- Must be able to read and comprehend written safety rules, procedure and safety manuals, government regulations, operating and maintenance instructions, memos and other work-related information
- Able to think and act quickly in responding to emergency and non-emergency situations
